Reliable Recipes Rubbish Photography, 7 Mar. 2013
I love Delia and have most of her books and was so excited to get this one but Oh dear! I wonder if Delia actually cooked some of the cakes in the photographs. The swiss roll for instance. It isn't a roll at all and if I had cooked that I would say it was a disaster and talking of photographs well how can a swiss roll be green. I had to check the ingredients to see if there was anything in it that could account for the green. Photographs are really important to know if you have achieved what you had set out to do. The photographer Dan Jones in this case obviously relied of his ability to touch up the photographs rather than his ability as a photographer i.e. the jam on the classic sponge cake, also the colours of some of the cakes are just weird and make them look unappetising. Grated Chocolate & Almond Cake, green cake purple chocolate. Apricot Oat Slice's, grey and concrete like, in fact a lot of the photographs have either a grey or green hue, not colours you would associate with cakes. I'm sure Delia's recipes are fine as usual but the photographs in this book does nothing for them. If you are a Delia fan as I am then you will attempt the recipes photographs or not, but if you are a novice its uninspiring. Sorry Delia.
