5.0 out of 5 stars great read, 15 Oct. 2013

Although gruesome at times the book is filled with humour and gives you a sense of the camaraderie that developers between the police staff when dealing with terrible crimes. Its nice that the lead character seems fairly normal and well adjusted unlike most lead detectives. Have read both books by this pair of writers and look forward to more.

Different from anything i have read recently. A little far fetched in places but still a good absorbing read. Well worth a try.

Hard to explain, but once you start reading you just cannot stop. Laugh out loud funny in places and quite poignant in others. Will read more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 24 Sept. 2013

Rugged wry and sometimes amusing the lead character in this series of books is like a throw back to the "bad old days" of policing. Thank the lord its all fiction. Its a brilliant fast paced gory read though. Its the second book I have read and am becoming quite attached to Heck. More of the same please.

5.0 out of 5 stars really strong police procedural., 19 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Really well thought out police procedural. For once non of the key characters have deep flaws in their personal lives and appear to live fairly normal lives which do not detract from the story. It was also nice to see that knowing this was written by an ex policeman he wasn't afraid to show bending of the rules which added to the story. Fast paced and well written. I will look out for the next in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good read, 8 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed this book but am not sure that I am going to form any type of affinity for the main character Geraldine Steel. She is a bit one dimensional. I have purchased the second book and will see if she develops more in that book. She does not appear to have any real quirks or sense of humour that often draw you to main characters in a book. I will reserve judgement until I have read the second book.

The Value of Life
The Value of Life
Price: £0.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Something new and different., 7 May 2013
This review is from: The Value of Life (Kindle Edition)
Bad points? Quite a few typos which are distracting and annoying. Good points? Good fast paced story with a few interesting characters. You can see that they could be developed if this book is indeed intended to be one of a series. The main character Josef is likeable and a bit quirky. More of a why dunnit than a whodunnit but a good read all the same.
