4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, 28 Sept. 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Nice, robust design, and loving the soft-click action!

It's great that there's a clear plastic wallet inside the file (front and back), for tucking in other complimentary documents, though it could be a little taller, to avoid 'floppage', should you wish to stand the file up to copy or read from it.

Once the branded paper has been removed, the file is pleasant to look at, and easy to label or customise to make it stand out, or to appear individual.

All in all, an excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty unshackled, 10 Aug. 2012
This review is from: Bon Iver, Bon Iver (Audio CD)
Not often do you hear a thing of such instant appeal and beauty that you are driven to enquire after the artist and the piece.

Such a thing is undeniable!

A sound engineer put 'Perth' on in a gap between bands at a gig I was attending.

One listen was all it took, and I was hooked.

And then came here and wrote this.

It's got unusual production, distinctive vocals and an almost dream-like, indefinable quality, this album.

Buy it, and your life will be enriched.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, 11 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is easily one of the best things on TV EVER.

Simple.

Gifted actors, witty scripts, fantastic pastiches of classic songs and their accompanying videos all make HH a phenomenon that all involved should be truly proud of.

Oh, and I'm learning stuff with my kids, too. At Eastnor Castle, there was a pic of Queen Victoria. My son correctly identified her and added, "She reigned for 64 years, y'know".

Brilliant stuff!

The outtakes and unused sketches all add to the great value of this package. Don't hesitate - get them all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, 2 July 2012
This review is from: Mr Stink (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As adequately covered in other reviews, this book works well on 2 distinct levels.

My young children enjoyed having it read to them, and accepted the narrative without issue or too much puzzling. However, the book prompted me to ask them about things that happened here and there, which led to some brow-furrowing and gentle soul-searching. That's a good thing!

It's all too easy to get snuggly, cosy-fitting stories tied up with a pretty bow, and this story did remind me of the anarchic voice of Roald Dahl here and there.

Nice job, Mr Walliams.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back up product, 2 July 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I use this as a back up, should I ever lose the plug that comes with my iPhone! Fits onto my synch cable a treat.

The fact that it comes with no cable will inevitable put some people off, as it may feel like half of a product. We know it's a USB charger, why not include the cable?

But for my purposes, it's just fine. And chucks out enough light that you're unlikely to forget you left it switched on!

It's just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff, 21 Jun. 2012

This is what you want from a 2d platformer - FUN & PLAYABILITY.

It's instinctive, responsive, and, above all, a joy to use. I have an 8 & 6 year old and we all love playing on it. The levels are imaginative and attractive to look at, and the animation and sound is lovingly-crafted and detailed in ways that you'll find charming and seductive.

Design is a joy. I use the controller WITH the nunchuk, but you can play without, too.

Great value at current price, and reminds me why i bought a home games console in the first place.

Plenty of replay value, too, as you try to improve your score and gather more 'Electoons'.

If only all games developers loved their products this much :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Undeniable, 21 Jun. 2012
This review is from: Storm Corrosion (Audio CD)
Any product that polarises opinion like this album must be worth checking out.

I'm not bothered what an artist has done before; collaboration creates a different animal.

I approached this album with open ears.

It's beautiful.

I was hooked after being sent a link to the video for 'Drag Ropes'. And whilst that track is astonishing, the rest of the album rapidly grows to match it, even without awesome accompanying visuals...

Comparisons are often the staple of a review, but I would urge you to check this out simply because it is undeniable, whether you like it or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grudgingly, it's lovely., 11 Jun. 2012

You wait 8 years for a new Blue Nile album, and get this. A PB solo effort, devoid of the production values of old.
These songs feel like piano and vocal demos.

Heartfelt, accomplished songwriting and touching, weathered, tasteful vocal performances. Skeletal songs, with all their inherent rawness and fragility.

And music used to be all about songs. Well, guess what, it still is. And this guy writes great songs.

Would you rather not have these songs? Not me. Inspiring, and touching, and none outstay their welcome. Sure, I'd rather have the full-on production, so I'll shave off a star to reflect my smidgeon of disappointment.

Paul investigates different keys sounds, which hits you later, and you realise there are some subtle bits n bobs going on. An upright bass sound here, a choral pad there. Strings, low in the mix. But the whole effect is one of reflection, hiatus, calm. Very little urgency. I miss the yelps and the machines. It was always the mix of humanity and drum synths that hooked me before...

But it is lovely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, 17 Mar. 2012
This vehicle for Gervais/Merchant is great taken on its own terms. A slice of 70s life, shot through with their characteristic humour. All the humour that IS in it (and there is a lot, I think some of these viewers have had their funny bones removed)is borne of real life getting in the way of the protagonists' plans.

It's largely the humour of awkwardness (check out the Winner's ball scene, and the appearance, twice, of the 'C' word) rather than fine characterisation - but the drive here is all about the narrative, not the characters' development.

It's not perfect, but it's certainly not bad or rubbish, either. I laughed out loud quite a few times - not least at the fashion, the wallpaper, the hairdos.

It's an affectionate boy's-own tale, really - all raging hormones and aspirant 70s living - all Peter Stuyvesant and cabin crew chic. You can see the story resolution coming a mile off, but I still wanted to watch it unfold.

A diverting hour and a half. And boasting an hilarious 1 minute cameo from Stephen Merchant. Gervais is fine, too - business as usual for him, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blistering debut, 26 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Vote Franko (MP3 Download)
FranKo are currently recording their latest tracks with the mighty Dan Weller, fresh from his recent albums with Young Guns and Enter Shikari.

Here's a chance to catch the embryonic FranKo at the start of their journey. Originally a fan-only release, 'Vote FranKo' was produced by Jason Wilcock, with some tracks featuring original production by Jim Lowe of Stereophonics and Foo Fighters fame.

Live favourites Night Time and Love For Fame are here, as is the experimental Take A Bow, which earned them the title 'Best Rock Act' in the inaugural Online Music Awards last year.

It's a muscular set of 10 adrenaline-soaked tunes that only really lets up for Love For Fame, which singer Tommy Bastow describes as a 'bit of a love song'.

A confection of rock, indie, pop and funk, it's stylistically felxible but shows a band fizzing with creativity and potential. They don't sound like anyone else.
