for bedroom/computer musicians, this is the best book on market for helping with elements of music , maybe we sometimes lack knowledge of, and also music tech techniques like song arranging, contrast, sampling, automation control data-everything you need

it has a huge clear section on drum programming (from simple things like how to set a drum kit like a real drummers kit) to complicated drum an percussion tips, from tribal to house, from tight and mechanic, to loose and human sounding, keeping your listener intersted on progressive beat heavy tracks

has sections on basslines which was really insightful, strings, pads, leads, musical techniques that if like me, you need to fill in the blanks and get a greater understanding, will help you with simple broken down explanations and concepts

has a very uselful section on creative fx use, and is not limited to just one programme, the concepts are compatible with any of the major software programmes used eg reason, logic, cubase etc

if you want to fill in the gaps in your knowledge wether it be making percusssion loops sound human and real, or artificially create a bassists techniques, or make your strings sound more melodical and less sequenced, this book is for you

also has lots of technical sections , just for computer musicians like sampling, legal issues with sample use, mixing, mastering, song arranging, contrast, mastering, mixing

also comes with cd, which some people dont use, when using the two together, helped me no end , i have read my share of unhelpful books and this will be a very useful tool in your music making

I struggle more than most with music theory , and this book was more helpful than any other I have came across

It is not a magic wand that will have you know all angles of an extremely complicated subject, from one glance, but it does however teach you many helpful tips and breaks the complicated stuff into smaller chunks and with a small amount of persistance, it all weaves into a understanding

the accompayin cd is really helpful, and if you are not theory minded like me, Id say just keep at it ,and dont try and learn all concepts of theory in one read of a book, use it as a guide and use the c.d

after a few weeks I now have a firm understanding of chords, scales, rythm and intervals , with only the first half of the book (im not ready for thre more complicated stuff just yet- but that is all included for when i have progressed)

so overall this book is everything you could need as a aspiring computer musician, if you have this book, and read it , and play with the concepts explained, you WILL begin to grasp this ridiculously complex subject

few months on and you will have opened up a whole new angle to make music from, and not feel boxed in with limited knowledge

if you cant learn from the teachings in this book then you are trying to grasp too much to easily, face it music theory is world in itself and with persistance and actually carrying out the concepts and experimenting, you WILL grasp it progressively

top book, more helpful for bedroom producers than any other theory book ive read -and ive read many
