A surprisingly good adaptation!, 11 Nov. 2006
Reese Witherspoon is surprisingly good as the clever Becky Sharp in Vanity Fair. The plot is obviously condensed a great deal to fit into the film but it was cleverly worked nonetheless. Becky is portrayed as nicer than she is in the book and Rawdon Crawley is a real love interest here but it does serve to make the film very watchable indeed as you do sympathise slightly with Becky. The colours, costumes and locations are wonderful. I definitely enjoyed this film - it made me want to read the book!
