painful honesty at its brutal best!, 22 Oct. 2002
malan chronicles the true plight of the disturbed world of south africa superbly in this wonderfully, and at times painfully, honest book. he traces his bloodline back to the first european settlers in south africa and tells of how instrumental the malan line have been in the oppression of blacks in south africa. if you think you know about south africas political plight think again because malan reveals the truth behind the worldwide sympathy and propoganda smokescreen. rian malan pens, quite superbly, the happenings in south africa while the world cried for nelson mandelas freedom and cried at steve bikos mysterious death. his pain and fear can quite literally be felt through your finger tips as you live one mans realisation of himself through a true masterpiece.
