4.0 out of 5 stars Best of a bad bunch, 7 Aug 2008
This review is from: Golden Classics (Audio CD)
Unfortunately, Brotherhood of Man have never been very well served by the arrival of Compact Disc. Their original studio albums have been ignored and the compilations available are usually filled with cover versions they recorded after the fame ended.

This one at least seems to be free of the cover versions and as well as including most of their hits, it includes a number of album tracks. Unfortunately, the choice of many of them is a little hard to fathom - as they have much stronger material to offer. There are some gems such as "Heartbreaker", but one day hopefully we may get a decent - proper - compilation of this group who had a lot going for them as a pop group.

For the time being - I would recommend this one if you're unsure of which BOM compilation to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect pop album, 7 Aug 2008
This review is from: Hand Cut (Audio CD)
Bucks Fizz never received much credibility, which is a shame considering that this album has it in spades. "Hand Cut" is a great pop album - easily a strong rival to Abba. The production is immense, while the songs are just fantastic pop pieces. This album includes the hit singles "If You Can't Stand the Heat" and "Run for Your Life" as well as classic Bucks Fizz tracks "I'd Like to Say I Love You" and "10,9,8,7,6,5,4". If you're a pop fan and certainly an 80s fan - you need this album in your collection. Music doesn't get much better than this. Forget Eurovision - this album is a pop masterpiece. Scoff all you want - but listen to this album first.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst of a great band, 12 May 2008
Four albums by a great band. This album from 1990 easily stands as the worst. After the massively brilliant "Sea of Love", the group tried to recreate their 1 hit "Broken Land" on virtually every track here and failed miserably.
Barely a decent song contained. Possibly the biggest disappointment in terms of follow-up albums ever.
The next album, while not returning to the highs of their first 2 albums, was a big improvement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Childrens series ever, 23 April 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
And about time too! Made in 1969, but never released on Video or DVD till 2008. This, the TV adaptation of the award winning novel is a major feat of television. One of the first series ever to be made in colour in the UK, this 8 part story is a magical delight from start to finish. It's quite traumatic in parts and I would recommend caution to younger viewers. Fantastic performances from all - the best ever for a supposed "children's" show and a wonderful feel to the whole thing, which is beautifully shot on location.

The leisurely pace of the episodes adds to the characterisation in a way that I felt the book needed. I first saw this in the late 80s and was about the same age as the main 3 characters and was compelled by them.

The really great thing about this series is that it stands up well to repeated viewing - in fact, it's essential, each time reveals a new layer and a deeper understanding - so it's perfect for a DVD release.

Wonderful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solo best, 16 Jan 2008
This review is from: Eyes of a Woman (Audio CD)
If you're a pop fan like me (especially the 80s) then you'll love this album. In my view, Agnetha's best solo album. Of the four English language albums, it's the one that show most diversity in all the different styles it contains.
