I don't read many books like this, I normally just read fiction but got recommended this by a friend, and I'm glad I did.

The book turned out to be really interesting and I keep going back to it to read passages again. It's hard sometimes to keep a positive mindset but this book has really helped me look at things in a new light and I feel better for it.

worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Summer Fun Fun Fun, 25 Jun 2008
Having followed Noah and the Whale for a good few months and having seen them live a couple of times in Manchester i can safely say that they are good. Songs like "Rocks and Daggers", "Mary", "Beating" and the new single "5 Years time" will have you dancing and smiling in seconds.

Live, NATW are pretty special, working the crowds and getting everyone involved with their lively mainly upbeat music. There are also some slower and darker tones to some of the songs and lyrics and they are definately not just your typical pop group.

Including a violin, bass, drums, egg shaker(!), and glokenspiel and music box they create multi-layered sounds that can build into high energy, barn-dancing-esque madness!! This album is well worth buying and is definately going to be album of the summer whenn it eventually gets released.

Although Laura Marling is not courting the public or mainstream media (like other singer/songwriters see Adele, Lily Allen or Kate Nash), her voice is so strong and unique that hopefully it is only inevitable that she becomes better known and doesnt just dissappear under the tide of comercialised female singers that all sound the same and demand attention and fame.

For the people who have heard her and know how good she is, it is worth having a listen to "Noah and the whale" where she adds backing vocals to some entertaining folk-pop songs.
