I've had a variety of small video cameras over the years mounted to my bike, from cheap bullet cameras to more expensive cameras such as the Contour GPS (no longer available)and Polaroid XS100 (my current favourite) Polaroid XS100 Extreme Edition HD 1080p 16MP Waterproof Sports Action Camera
First impressions are good. The camera is very small, but not water resistant without its slightly bulkier transparent shell.
Cutting to the chase, what is it like filming?
*The sound is excellent.
*The still photography is average at best (worse than with my smartphone which is a Samsung Galaxy S3)
*The bundled software "Play memories" is pretty unintuitive and takes over insertion of memory cards (so plug in another camera or phone and it pops up)
*1080 30fps there is noticeable "flickering", much like watching a video on an old CRT monitor. Initially I thought this was to do with the PAL setting, but it is more or less the same with NTSC.
*1080 60fps is much better, but no better than my XS100 which is nearly 1/3 the price.
*GPS feature works ok, but files are separate from the movie and dont have a corresponding filename. Which file to use? I couldn't get it working with Dashware software, which my old Contour worked with perfectly.
*Low light is good
There are other features such as a downloadable app, but at the end of the day it's all down to the footage - can it take decent pictures and video. It's ok, but compared to its competition and the price it just isn't good enough.
