1.0 out of 5 stars Design changed!, 14 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having previously brought this product and would have given it 5* and being pleased to see safety in mind as it is designed for children primarily having ordered again, the two delivered this time do not have the detachable clip for the buddy itself, just a length of cord to attach the buddy to the lanyard itself. Not happy but will use old lanyards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait and ticked every box - Beautiful, 20 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Hazel has written another fantastic book - the designs are bright, colourful and using techniques from her first book but also new techniques including needle weaving which create beautiful textures using easily sourced threads such as stranded cotton, rayon and metallic threads with embellishments using beads and crystals. As with Crewel Twists, each technique is well described and illustrated. Beads and crystals are now on order for the Late Harvest project and eagerly awaiting their delivery. Enlarging charts proved tricky but measuring with a tape measure and a few tries later I soon got it.

Easy to use. Found some ISBN numbers were not found but you can enter details manually. If image is available with ISBN number then this is downloaded too. Images can also be added manually (jpeg) or URL. Useful search feature. It would be nice to see a count of books although not essential. Works well on Kindle Fire.

Very useful app for keeping a list of threads you have but also need. Well known thread brands listed. Wonder if Raj Mahal and Appletons Crewel could also be added? And perhaps Pipers Silks? Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspirational - will not disappoint!, 11 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A truly inspiring collection of colour photos showing embroidery both old and new, traditional and modern, with a concise description for each piece. As well as pieces from the author's own collection, it shows a wealth of pieces from several countries including Africa, America, China and Japan (to name but a few). Each chapter is dedicated to a specific technique including applique, beadwork, counted thread, free stitch, goldwork, patchwork, machine embroidery, quilting/padded work, smocking and whitework, laid out to visually show the development of each technique. As the title suggests, it is a sourcebook, so there is no technical instruction. If you just like looking at embroideries, perhaps studying the history of embroidery, or looking for inspiration for your next project, then this book will not disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a gem!, 11 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love this book. What a gem! I received it last week and have already completed a cut-down version of "Midnight Meander" featured on the front cover - using my own colour scheme. I was very pleased with what I achieved. The instructions clearly detail each stage, containing a useful stitch glossary including needle-lace techniques, and clear photos, that guide you step by step, to completion. I enjoyed it so much that I have since ordered the beads and threads for the Autumn Lace project and can't wait for them to arrive! I am so delighted to have found a book that combines several techniques, and that use well-known brands of stranded cotton. Hazel, you have achieved your goal . . . I am well and truly inspired!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nina Broderick, 12 Aug. 2011

Well worth the wait! This new title ties in perfectly with Trish's DVD, introducing the techniques of long and short stitch. Trish Burr is a self-taught embroiderer. This book is the perfect introduction for a beginner to master the techniques of long and short stitch, but also challenging enough to satisfy the experienced embroiderer, who is perhaps seeking a smaller project to make into a gift or card. There are fifteen designs including a detailed introduction to long and short stitch and a handy stitch glossary. The photos are clear and combined with clear instructions, that take you through each stage. You will also find the practice motifs that Trish demonstrated exceptionally well in her DVD. All the projects use DMC or Anchor threads (DMC colours listed but you can easily get a conversion chart). My heartfelt thanks to Trish for sharing this wonderful technique with us and for keeping embroidery alive! Happy stitching!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fantastic read and was "The Best of Times", 26 Sept. 2009
This review is from: The Best of Times (Paperback)
Another fantastic read and amazingly even after completing the book, which it is a lengthy one, I felt the ending was a little rushed (but guess it had to end sometime) and felt it needed another chapter (or two) especially on the couples, and how they got on. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed it!
