5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 13 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Moab Is My Washpot (Paperback)
Absolutely loved this book. Yes, it is rather colourful at times but is an honest account of a tortured genius' struggle to fit in with the world. Humorous and entertaining throughout, this autobiography covers everything from the laborious boarding schools to the tyrannies of being a repressed homosexual. Pure genius.

A great moustache, sticks really well to your face and looks fairly realistic.
Here's a picture of me wearing it:[...]

The Grand Design: New Answers to the Ultimate Questions of Life
The Grand Design: New Answers to the Ultimate Questions of Life

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 28 Nov. 2010
A very entertaining read that will bring you up to speed on what modern day physicists want to achieve; finding The Grand Design of the Universe. Hawking and Mlodinow write in a really witty style and move over the physics involved at a comfortable pace. I particularly enjoyed the chapter about Reality, very interesting. I would recommend this book, especially as it is only 181 pages long and isn't too complicated compared to what you might expect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good if its your first, 25 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Bad Science (Paperback)
I felt that the book lacked something but it definitely makes you more skeptical of research from "scientists" and stories of miracle cures. I would recommend it if you are more interested in "Bad Medicine" rather than "Bad Science" as the book is mostly all about medicine not science. Alas, it is still really well written and worthy of most of the praise it receives.

Wild Sling Solo Water Bomb Launcher
Wild Sling Solo Water Bomb Launcher

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have., 3 Oct. 2010
This sling is utterly brilliant. It gets its power form the surgical elastic band and will launch rocks, golfballs, snow balls, tennis balls, water balloon impressively far. It is definitely a toy for over sixteens as it can potentially be quite dangerous, but trust me you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impossibly Interesting, 7 April 2010
After reading the first few lines I thought that this book would be appallingly dull and tedious, repeating itself and choosing to write about the most boring things the author could think of. But no. Petroski manages in the first chapter make the common office paperclip a fascinating artifact and leading us through how the designers and engineers have made the paperclip a near perfect design, how they have changed the design to make it more cheaper and how rivals have come up with their own solution to temporarily fastening paper together. The other chapters address a multitude of engineering challenges. A really interesting and enjoyable read, five stars, highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something Everyone can learn, 28 Mar. 2010
I've just finished this book and highly recommend that everyone else reads it as well! There is something everyone can learn and allows you to interpret the second dimension of communication; body language. There are references throughout the book to when he used the techniques in this book in real life investigations and just everyday observations he makes. The chapter on deception is particularly interesting, all based around lying and how to tell if someone is being untruthful. Navarro has a good, accessible writing style allowing anyone to read his book and learn his invaluable, interesting and normally overlooked knowledge on non-verbal communications. 5 STARS!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous, 2 Sept. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great series of factual documentaries full of interesting technologies, innovations and inventions of the last hundred years. May presents the six episodes well and never bores you with too much information and keeps the fast pace going. A good introduction of the machines that shape our modern world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic historically accurate film that shows the true face of war, 2 Sept. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: My Boy Jack [DVD] (DVD)
This film is unbelievably realistic and a far cry from the glamorized Hollywood Blockbuster. Although Radcliffe was in Harry Potter you will forget this within five minutes of the film. Its historical accuracy is superb and has one of the saddest endings in the world. Five out of Five.
