Photographic Technology and Image Science (Technical Pocket Book series)
Photographic Technology and Image Science (Technical Pocket Book series)
by Sidney F. Ray
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars A glossary, really, 5 July 2010
This book is rather like the Focal Encyclopaedia in miniature - short entries alphabetically organised on topics in photographic technology. If you have the Focal Encyclopaedia you probably won't need this as well. It's an odd shape, tall, narrow and fat - though not realistically a pocket book. The content seems fine, but it doesn't really do what I was hoping for, which was a discursive explanation of the topic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works, but a pain to set up, 5 July 2010
Got this to extend the range of our Panasonic DECT system to a studio building about 50 metres from the main house. It does the job, but as others have said, the setup process is a nightmare; following the advice in other reviews here is essential, and even then I had to repeat the steps several times before it decided to work. Once set up, it works fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb images, 7 Dec 2009
This book is not a boring catalogue, but a thoughtful, beautifully illustrated overview of the photograph collections of the Scottish National Galleries. Their collection is very large, so inevitably this is only a sample. It covers all periods from the start of photography post-1839 to very recent times. It contains some images which are very well known elsewhere and have been published widely, but also plenty that are little-known. Each image is accompanied by a good readable description and commentary in normal English (not curator-speak). Strongly recommended, and excellent value.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE lighting book, 7 Dec 2009
I wasn't disappointed when I read the many other positive reviews for this book. It has the advantage over the many other books on the subject, that it refers back all the time to a few key principles, so teaching you to solve problems for yourself. I've been lighting things for years, and I now understand better what I've been doing - and will now do a few things differently!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read!, 15 Nov 2009
This review is from: Peril in Rochenoir (Paperback)
Peril in Rochenoir is a mystery/thriller with good characters, plenty of pace, an inventive story with a really surprising twist at the end, which of course I shan't reveal. A good read!

Congratulations to the author on a very diverting mystery. Also educational, having resurrected memories of a session on 'History of Religions' at Santander University, the ever so pure Cathars. I am looking forward to Revenge in Rochenoir.
