5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, Brilliant, Amazing, Superb!, 31 Jan 2003
The original Star Wars trilogy is the best trilogy of films ever made. They have good versus evil, the underdog winning against all the odds, love, hate and finally reconciliation. Darth Vader is pure evil. Luke Skywalker is pure good. The droids are the simple innocents and Han Solo is the lovable rogue. These films are old now but they still look as good as the day they were originally made which is a complement indeed. Very few science fiction films stand the test of time, but this trilogy has and probably will for the next twenty years also. To have kids and not own these films is a crime against humanity. To not have kids and not own these films is a crime against yourself. Buy them now!

Dimensions of the Sacred: Anatomy of the World's Beliefs
Dimensions of the Sacred: Anatomy of the World's Beliefs
by Ninian Smart
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly Informative but very technical., 31 Jan 2003
Ninian Smart has written a highly accomplished and useful book that is worthy of its place in the book collection of any student of religion. Smart starts by outlining his ideas about what the component parts of religion are (he comes up with 8) and then he spends the rest of the book explaining in detail the nature of these dimensions, as he calls them. My one criticism of the book is that it skips from one religion to the next and then back again so fast, to prove his theories, that it can become easy to loose your train of though and realise you have not actually taken in any information you have read on the last three pages you have read. This is a book that should be read at a slow pace, but it is a book that should most definitly be read.

Beyond Prediction: The Tarot and Your Spirituality
Beyond Prediction: The Tarot and Your Spirituality
by John Drane

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy Read, But Slightly Boring, 31 Jan 2003
This starts of as a highly interesting book on the Tarot. It gives a brief history of the tarot which is good and exciting with some novel information. Who would have thought there was so much Christian symbolism in the Tarot? Unfortunately, after the history chapter the book declines into mediocrity. The pictures of the cards in the Major Arcana are very poor quality and are in black and white. This makes it harder to get a true feel for the Tarot. There was also no pictures of the cards that make up the Minor Arcana.
This book comes from an unusual perspective in that it is written by Christian authors. The book however is not aimed at Christians. It is aimed at spiritual searchers who may already have had some experience with the Tarot but didn't realise its Christian connections.

A Short History of the World (Penguin Modern Classics)

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, Fantastic, Amazing, 28 Jan 2002
At first I was hesitant about this book. This final edition of the book was finished just before the author's death just after World War 2. It is therefore a dated book and a lot of scholarship has happened in that time period. Once I started reading the book, however, my doubts evapourated. Wells uses the great literary abilities he has in fiction to create one of the best written works of historiography you will ever come across. Moreover the idea of writing a complete world history from dawn to dusk actually works. It gives you an appreciation of the interconnectedness of all the events throughout history to each other throughout the world. I love both history and theology. This book enables me to contextualize both the events of history I have studied and the religions I have studied within the overall history of this planet. I have learnt more from this little book than I have from other much bigger and scholarly books. My recomendation to you is simply, READ IT!!!

Introducing the New Testament
Introducing the New Testament

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction To The Background of the New Testament, 28 Jan 2002
This book by John Drane is a masterpiece. Drane approaches the subject from an evangelical christian point of view. He is not scared to examine points of view that he disagrees with, but at the same time he will let no current social convention come between himself and what he believes the text of the New Testament to actually mean.
This book does not just cover the theology of the New Testament but also looks at the socio-political climate that the New Testament was written in and that the first christians lived in.
Whilst the books simplicity makes it best for the A-Level student or the general reader, it is also good for the undergraduate university student as an easy read and enjoyable quick introduction to the New Testament in order to provide an initial orientation to the subject matter at hand.
This is a book that I freely recommend to anybody wanting to take initial steps into the delightful world of the New Testament.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the cheap price, 10 Feb 2001
This translation of the Quran is reasonably accurate and the English is not too bad. The book however does not place the English alongside the original Arabic as is the normal custom and therefore cannot give the true feel of the Quran as it was originally written. It is however a good version of the Quran for none Muslim students of Islam as the meaning of the Quran can easily be obtained from it whilst at the same time it is cheap

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Heaven, 10 Feb 2001
This film is great. There are very few films that are better. The special effects are amazing and the story line is reasonably good as well. I can't wait for the next Star Wars film to be released. I loved the original films and I love this one as well. The light saber fight at the end of the film between the Jedi, Qui-Gon Jin and Obi-Wan Kenobi against the deadly evil Sith warrior Darth Maul is a movie classic. This film may not be as good as the originals but that does not stop it from being a great film.

Guide for Bible Discussion Group Leaders
Guide for Bible Discussion Group Leaders
by Billy Graham Evangelistic Organization
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Introduction On How To Organise A Bible Study Class, 10 Feb 2001
This little booklet is a good introduction to how to run a Bible study class. It teaches you how to choose parts of the Bible to study and how to involve people in discussion in the study group. The actual makeup of the booklet does give a feeling of the amateur... The contents of the booklet are well worth having and will be of enormous help to inexperienced Bible study group leaders.

Day by Day With Billy Graham 2001 Calendar (Page-Per-Day Calendars)
Day by Day With Billy Graham 2001 Calendar (Page-Per-Day Calendars)
by Billy Graham
Edition: Calendar

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Daily Christian Calander, 10 Feb 2001
This is a good Christian devotion calander. It has a page for each day of the year. Each day has a quote from the Bible. There is also a comment on how to apply the Bible quote to our everyday lives by the famous veteran American evangelist, Reverend Billy Graham. Note this is not a calander for recording information but is totally for the purposes of having a Biblr verse to apply to your life for each day of the year. The only small criticism I have of the calander is that instead of using the same Bible translation for each quote, it uses translations from a vast array of Bible translations. This makes some Bible passages more readable than others. On the whole though this is a very good devotion calander.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Quotation Collection, 9 Feb 2001
The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations is as comprehensive a dictionary of quotations as anybody could want. It covers all topics imaginable from war and peace to love and sex. All famous quotations and hundreds of not so famous quotations are included. There is a quotation, both serious or witty, to cover any subject a person may be writing or talking about. This is a book that you will refer back to again and again. I have even found myself looking up quotations and reading them just for fun.
