3.0 out of 5 stars kindle X-ray 'essential', 25 Jan 2014

This review is from: The Luminaries (Kindle Edition)
Its a bit too long winded in my opinion. I appreciate that there was a lot gong on (kindle x-ray was VERY handy at times) but it felt like it was dragging on a lot of the time. Well written though, fascinating snapshot of time and place.

3.0 out of 5 stars rubbish battery life, 23 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fantastic camera in every respect and its claims of being adventure proof are true, as long as your adventure doesn't stray too far from a power source. Two hours approx if your shooting a lot. I bought a second battery and that obviously doubles the adventure time but don't expect to get too far with it.

I had a Pentax options w20 prior to this and loved it. When that finally died I grabbed one of these but soon realized its battery performance was no where near as good. I'm keeping it though, just a but peeved at the battery situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star eye opener, 18 Feb 2011
A fascinating book brilliantly written. I don't often read auto biogs but am so glad I got this book. The horrors of the Arizona jail system voiced and documented warts and all. Dirt, greed, corruption, bribary and extortion seem suprisingly commonplace - in the law and press circles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant characterisation., 29 Jan 2011

Some of the richest development of characters I have come across in a long time. attention to detail supreme. Would have been good to hear more of the Dublin stage in which this story is set.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic book.., 12 May 2009
What a remarkable book "The Philosopher's Apprentice" by James Morrow is.

Not to be perturbed by it's rather docile cover illustration which conjured up a in my mind something between chick lit and a kids book I was captivated by the time I'd finished the first few pages.

Until reading this book, I was, in the diction of a philosopher 'Tabla rasa', or without knowledge of most of the base concepts of philosophy.

In the essence of something akin to TV's 'LOST' the environment of a seemingly uninhabited tropical island was the stage. Further to the LOST setting, the story unfurled several of the islands oddities and secrets as the young Philosophy drop out set about his task of giving an amnesic girl on the island a Moral Compass.

Darwin verses the rest of the world played a strong part in the sub plot to this book, where the author draws on examples, exercises and anecdotes from the world of phillosophica and without thinking too hard, I'd gathered a great insight into 'the best bits' of some of the greats - Aristotle, Socrates, Plato and Epicurus as well as some of the more up to date great thinkers such as Heidegger and Leibniz. 20th Century heads such as Kierkegaard and Nietzsche also had quite a chunk of beutifully crafted ink dedicated to their cause. Some of the basic (but fascinating) principals of philosophy were also quite neatly woven into the take - things such as Rationalism, Stoicism and a bunch of other ism's to boot. I'd say - if you like the sound of a fantastic un-putdownable book that's expanding your knowledge of Philosophical thinking without being a dullard brain ache, get it got!

There is only one problem with this EP - it's not long enough! I randomly bought this and loved it straight away. It's well worth a listen. Enchanting. Haunting. Unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great help, 11 May 2007
I did a lot of research into books to help me teach my two boys (9 and 6) and their friends a bit more about cricket. I love the game, and they are getting into it.

This book is so helpful in giving me insights into coaching and the various forms of the game (kids arent nececarily interested in the purist forms of the game)

Clear illustrations and plain English descriptions make this book a very easy to use reference. It's well structured with everything from photocopyable score cards to tips and tricks on some of the more technical aspects.

A great buy for any level of coach - experienced or 'wannabe' Future England / Yorkshire player father like m'self ;)
