Polycom CX100 Speakerphone for Microsoft OCS 2007

4.0 out of 5 stars Works best with Lync, but still good with everything else., 26 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I wanted a small speakerphone unit to travel with my Surface Pro 2 device - although the built-in speakers/microphones are fine on the Surface, they don't work well brilliantly when trying to involve an entire meeting room in a conference call.

As per the other reviews, the on/off-hook buttons are specific to Lync (and OCS), but the volume up/down and mute buttons work fine with any application. Indeed, I've been able to host great conference calls in a reasonably large meeting room via Skype.

Another perk is that the Polycom CX100 is recognised as a full speaker/microphone set. I've been able to record audio directly into OneNote - great for capturing the audio in meetings for future reference.

Sound quality is great - I've had no complaints about the audio from my side, and the microphones appear to pick up voices from all directions - even from speakers placed at a distance behind the Polycom unit. I'd have no problems recommending this unit - a great portable device with top quality sound. If only the on/off-hook buttons worked with Skype...!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent lightweight 3D glasses suitable for people with prescription glasses, 5 Aug 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought these glasses based on existing positive reviews of the hardware. I'm pleased to report that these are currently the best Sony 3D glasses available, and should present no problem with the majority of people who wear prescription spectacles. The 3D glasses are lightweight and comfortable, and the standard nose-piece (two are included) should allow the glasses to sit "on top" of your existing spectacles without any discomfort.

The 3D glasses are charged by micro-USB, and certainly last a while before needing to be recharged. This is especially brilliant when playing videogames in 3D, as they batteries will last longer than most gaming sessions.

Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great remastering of a classic soundtrack, 11 Jan 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Halo Anniversary (Audio CD)
The Halo series of soundtracks - and the original Halo: Combat Evolved soundtrack - are modern classics of the videogame OST genre.

This Anniversary edition builds on the original soundtrack and - by golly - it sounds great. Certainly, the music is much richer, and contains far more depth, thanks to the full orchestra behind the scenes.

However, what was utterly astonishing as an original 1-CD collection of tracks has been turned into "merely brilliant" with this re-release and re-mastering onto 2-CDs. The additional space has been filled with a lot of the more ambient music, and the collection as a whole loses focus and - at times - almost becomes background music. Fine for the videogame, less so when you're trying to appreciate the soundtrack in isolation.

If you're a Halo fan, or simply adored the original Halo soundtrack - then this CD is a no-brainer must-purchase. You'll appreciate the extra depth and clarity that have been lovingly lavished onto the original tracks. However, the new additions are somewhat more questionable - but then, you could always just skip these! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Dramatic and orchestral fun!, 11 Jan 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I own a large selection of film, television and videogame soundtracks - and the Deus Ex: Human Revolution OST is definitely one of the highlights of my collection!

Michael McCann has created a brilliant score - from the bombastic, powerful orchestral tracks like "Icarus" and "Namir", to the quietly haunting "LIMB Clinic". The tracks are varied, although most lean towards the fast-paced and action-oriented style of music.

Even the slower, subtle tracks such as "Detroit Marketplace" and "Home" evoke subtle emotions - if you've ever played the game, the you'll be guaranteed to connect the places with the music.

I would compare McCann's style of composition for this soundtrack alongside some scores from Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Marco Beltrami, and Martin O'Donnell - fast-paced, action-packed, sweepingly powerful orchestral for the most part, but balanced with a selection of quieter, reflective - but no less emotional - tracks.

A great score - certainly more varied, and containing more depth, than most videogame soundtracks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive portable speakers, 11 Jan 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought two of these to create a stereo speaker configuration - they were really easy to pair with each other (once paired, you can forget about them). Pairing to both my Nokia Lumia 800 and my notebook PC through Bluetooth was also straightforward, and it's easy to switch between the two.

Sound quality is fantastic - these are amongst the best desktop speakers that I've heard in this price range. The fact that they can be used completely wirelessly is a massive benefit. The speakers are also still small enough to be used in travel situations - I bring these with me for parties and weekend trips now. There's no distortion at the highest volume - and the volume coming out of these small cubes is inpressively high when you set it at full blast. Bass is fairly strong (there's some clever design in these cubes), and the treble never becomes uncomfortable.

Battery life is brilliant - unexpectedly so. Certainly, they last for a full weekend with fairly prolonged periods of music and podcasts. They intelligently turn off when there's no activity too, preserving battery life.

I cannot recommend highly enough, especially in the stereo combination. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for any Microsoft Partner, 8 Oct 2009
This book is an excellent resource and reference guide for the Microsoft Partner Programme.

Regardless of whether you are a brand-new Registered Partner or a seasoned Gold Certified Partner with an established relationship with Microsoft - it is guaranteed that you will come away with some new-found knowledge of the Partner Programme.

Despite having partnered with Microsoft for over 10 years (as an MSPP Partner, an SBSC Partner, a Certified Partner and, most recently, a Gold Certified Partner), I found the book highly informative and learned about new resources and new ways to approach Microsoft. I was pleasantly surprised when, by the time I had finished reading the book, I found that I had scribbled over a page of "to-do" items for further developing our relationship with Microsoft, as well as reviewing how we sell and market our consulting services.

The Microsoft Partner Programme is a vast collection of resources and this book should be considered a must-have reference not only to the tools and opportunities that Microsoft provide for their Partners, but it also gives valuable insight on how to enhance your business and relationship with Microsoft.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to Active Directory, 21 Jan 2001
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book provides you with invaluable background and understanding of Active Directory Services, an integral part of Windows 2000 Server. Topics include a complete overview of Active Directory, namespaces, domains, the Schema, replication, site topology, security, and more.
If you're new to, or would like to learn more about, Active Directory then this book is a must-have.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very basic introduction to Windows 2000 Server, 21 Jan 2001
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book provides you with a very basic overview of Windows 2000 Server and its features. It provides you with a good understanding of how Windows 2000 works, a very basic overview of Active Directory, and a walkthough of some of the more useful features.
It does not, however, show you how to operate Windows 2000 Server (look to the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit or the Windows 2000 Server MCSE Training Kit, both by Microsoft Press, if you're looking for more in-depth information).
As a very basic overview to Windows 2000 and its architecture and features, this book is a must-read. Seasoned administrators and people looking to learn Windows 2000 will feel short-changed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very basic introduction to Windows 2000 Professional, 21 Jan 2001
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is aimed at helping you understand what Windows 2000 Professional is, and how it differs from its predecessors. It provides a very basic overview of Windows 2000, its features and architecture - but nothing more.
If you're looking to break into the world of Windows 2000 Professional, then give this book a glance. Don't, however, expect the book to teach you how to use Windows 2000 Professional. It's a great book for complete beginners, but seasoned administrators should look elsewhere (I recommend both the Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit or the Windows 2000 Professional MCSE Training Kit - both by Microsoft Press).

4.0 out of 5 stars A very basic introduction to Exchange 2000 Server, 21 Jan 2001
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you're completely new to Exchange 2000 Server, then this is the book for you. Rather than demonstrating the features of Exchange 2000 Server (I recommend the Exchange 2000 Server Administrator's Companion by Microsoft Press for more in-depth information) this books succeeds in its goal to give you a basic overview of what Exchange 2000 Server is, and how it works in conjunction with Windows 2000 Server and the Active Directory.
An excellent stepping stone into the world of Exchange 2000 server, although seasoned administrators may find this book a little light.
