5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful trip for the ears and mind, 7 Aug 2007
This review is from: Universal Love (Audio CD)
This is a beautiful CD. As you shut your eyes, the music of Nawang Khechog brings the snow topped hills of Tibet to you, invoking calm and peace. It is a true reflection of the freedom that should be happening for Tibet. The music gives you a feeling of sadness as you think of how absurd it is that in this modern age a country cannot be free, and yet that feeling is overridden by a powerful underlying expression of unconditional love and compassion - the very power that will one day triumph in freeing Tibet and the Tibetan people.

He is a masterful musician and ambassador for his country, one of Tibet's foremost composers and musicians. The Dalai Lama features in some of the chants, although this CD is predominantly Tibetan flute, Tibetan Long Horn and African and Native American drums - it is a wonderful trip for the ears and mind, taking in the essence of the Tibetan tradition." Universal love" speaks of freedom, love and peace for mankind as we inhabit this planet of ours - the Tibetan flute on this CD embraces your soul and lifts your heart, it gives you hope and courage and keeps the fires of passion burning inside us; one day, hopefully soon, Tibet will be free and one of these tracks will almost certainly be the signature tune to mark that beautiful day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tapping into real joy, 7 Aug 2007
This review is from: True Happiness (Audio CD)
Having read books by Pema Chodron and thoroughly enjoyed her clear and decisive style, it was a pleasure to listen to her on this CD - which is a live recording of an intensive retreat recorded at Gampo Abbey Monastery in Nova Scotia. Running to seven hours, this title puts us in touch with our own mortality and allows us to discover for ourselves true happiness.

Tapping into real joy comes form being in love with life and "knowing" deep within ourselves that each day is precious, that life is so short and that every moment is very special and precious; a constant cause for celebration.

That we are going to die is a truth that everyone knows deep within themselves, yet it takes constant awareness to realise it moment by moment and celebrate life fully, rather than living in a state of unconscious blind escapism - the natural human state imposed on us through years of conditioning.

It may sound like an idealistic way to live yet it is oh so close for all of us. It takes no effort to be happy and no outer circumstances are required - it simply comes from living in the now with an alert presence, living with love and compassion, living in alignment with life rather than fighting life and keeping our mortality high in our conscious awareness.

Ignorance and fear keep us trapped in unhappiness. It is an unconscious state that has been learnt and it can be unlearnt very simply. One of the keys to maintaining happiness is to be aware in the moments when we are going wrong; to "know" the times when we are not in line with our own true happiness. This vital conscious state can help us transform our daily lives and the beauty of it is it takes no effort! What takes effort and hard work is to be miserable, to be trapped in thought and to inflict suffering on ourselves through our erroneous reactions to life.

As with all great Spiritual Teachers, Pema Chodron invites us to find out for ourselves how accessible the truth is - rather than taking her word for it or following a set of rules or guidelines. There are suggestions and ideas on the CD's, yet the real work comes from within, by challenging our pre-existing ideas and notions and by "living" true happiness on a moment by moment basis; so that it becomes a way of life.

Pema Chodron takes the listener into true happiness and awakening, through personal experience and self investigation. This a brilliant CD set that draws on the wisdom of Buddhism and offers universal advice for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sixty minutes of pure bliss, 11 July 2007
This review is from: Celtic Meditation Music (Audio CD)
Irish harp, accompanied by clarinet, cello, violin, Irish whistle etc.

This wonderful Irish harp music is beautiful as background music or for silent meditation or contemplation. Slow, melodic and relaxing - just what you need to unwind.

All your troubles will fall away as you slow your thinking down and still your mind. It gently breaks the silence delicately like birdsong, always knowing when to add more space - the vital ingredient to capturing peace and tranquillity and the essence of all quality music.

The accompanying instruments such as the haunting cello on Track 4 and the clarinet that sensuously caresses the air on Track 5 and the superb Irish whistle on Track 11 compliment the Irish harp beautifully producing an overall massage for the soul.

This CD also appears to have magical powers - it lifted even the most stubborn heavy grey clouds and made the sun appear in a new clear blue sky. Just right for England! Perhaps it should be played in every town here? It also encouraged the birds to sing outside and the trees to dance as the music played in harmony with nature.

The music of Aine Minogue is as soothing as a long luxurious bath and this is sixty minutes of pure bliss.

5.0 out of 5 stars A spiritual teacher for the ears, 11 July 2007
This review is from: Moon on the Water (Audio CD)
This double CD contains nearly 2 hours of beautiful Shakuhachi Bamboo Flute music and is accompanied by a comprehensive explanatory booklet that gives fascinating insights into each track and about the remarkable instrument. Predominantly solo flute, some tracks have natural sounds in the background.

Have you ever been on a calming, relaxing holiday and felt totally rested just through being at a slower pace? The kind of holiday that makes you want to move there to live? Then you will know what this CD is like.

The gorgeous mind-stopping meditative music, grounds you in the present moment, as you absorb both the notes of the wonderful Shakuhachi Flute and the stillness of the silent spaces between the notes. As you listen with full attention, time stands still. As you listen, slow your breathing right down and drink in the atmosphere of space. This is peaceful and tranquil; it is Zen, it is "no thought".

For some, the music here could be an important first glimpse of "no mind" - for others, it represents an open door to that inner world of stillness, where thought is not only unnecessary; it becomes irrelevant.

If you are trapped in a mind that thinks it needs to travel flat out - this CD is for you. It can offer you inner calm, yet, it can only do that if you allow yourself to become still and savour its essence. If your mind gets impatient and thoughts re-enter, it may not be able to stand the peace! Simply detach yourself from your thoughts and you will stay with the music - feel your inner body as you listen.

This is a doorway to the realm of freedom. As the music fades into spaciousness, you will sense how calm you have become.

A highly recommended 2 CD set that is best described as a spiritual teacher for the ears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful CD - probably the best relaxing music CD you will ever find...one to cherish, 17 May 2007
This is probably the best relaxing music CD you will ever find. A stunning double CD album of calming, peaceful music...each track is unique although they do share one very important thing in common - they offer SPACE! Great composers and musicians know the importance of the spaces between the notes that create the atmosphere and make the music speak to you. The music on this 2 CD set is simply wonderful! 68 tracks and not even a hint of a bad one among them....In between the main song tracks we are treated to small samples of calming and relaxing instrumentals and/or sound effects, which are also beautiful and it works superbly. This type of music has a rare quality about, as it helps you stop your mind....freedom from thought is the vital ingredient in spiritual practices and this CD will aid you in slowing your thoughts and entering a wonderfully peaceful state. This is a highly recommended set, that captures what you may only have sampled in brief snippets elsewhere....I know I haven't found any other CD's that offer so many lovely pieces of music all in one place and this is something I will cherish for many years to come and always recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eckhart Tolle is the leading Spiritual Teacher today, 6 April 2007
Eckhart Tolle is the leading Spiritual Teacher today - he has produced many DVD's, Audio CD's and superb books including his astonishing bestseller "The Power of Now". Reading his books is one thing - listening to him completes the package. The delivery of his message is exceptional - he has an amazing presence. His calm and soothing voice, grounds you into the present moment. To listen with thoughtless awareness to Eckhart Tolle is to be fully awake and living in the Now, as advocated by every Spiritual teacher throughout history; many of whom were unable to get their message to us on DVD like this! For such a brilliant item, a review is quite difficult; analysis is really unnecessary; words seem superfluous - I feel I just want to say "Buy it!"

Eckhart Tolle material is always wonderful and "The Flowering of human consciousness" is yet another simply stunning DVD set. His messages are changing the lives of thousands of people on an individual level and in turn, this is changing the world. Anyone interested in Spirituality, religion aside, should listen to Eckhart Tolle - there is no need to label or attach the teachings to any particular belief; this is pure truth, spoken in such a way as to sooth and guide the soul into deeper understanding.

This set of 2 DVD's contains over 3.5 hours of pure genius. If you are new to Eckhart Tolle, I suggest that you listen to him without any judgements, listen with an open mind and a quiet mind - allow his message to slowly sink in and you will experience a profound change within. Pay attention also to the spaces between his words, as this is an important part of finding inner peace - to be in touch with the silence that exists underneath all noise including mental noise is fundamental in changing human consciousness and elevating it to a whole new level and more importantly, an imminently achievable new level for everyone.

Eckhart has a wonderful blend of humour and simple explanations, his messages or "pointers" as he suggests, are suitable to all ears and all levels - whether you have read one Spiritual book or thousands, meditated for six weeks or six decades - you will be ready for Eckhart, providing you allow yourself time to listen to him, instead of chasing off to an imaginary better new moment elsewhere. Simply listen and you will become part of the "Flowering of human consciousness"

If you enjoy this DVD set - I recommend that you also buy his DVD "What is meditation?" which is another brilliant example of Eckhart's humour and intelligence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reality experienced beyond words and concepts, 6 April 2007
This review is from: Taoism (Audio CD)
Ken Cohen starts by pointing out that the Tao is "Reality experienced beyond words and concepts" What a super pointer that is. This is an extremely comprehensive and wonderfully enjoyable 4 CD Set brilliantly narrated by the author. It left me wondering if it will ever be made into a DVD documentary; that would be fantastic!

This remarkable journey through history covers everything about Taoism, its origins, philosophy, living the Tao and practicing "Wu Wei" - "not doing" or; the principle of effortlessness and flowing with life.

Inner silence and harmony, simplicity, guided meditations, poetry, breathing, chants and the balance of Yin and Yang to name a few; it's all covered and explained plainly and simply. The section on Feng-Shui is illuminating and had me moving things around as I learnt of positive and negative forces, water and wind and how to use this knowledge to attract a healing and harmonious environment.

The Tao is beyond time, emptying the mind of thoughts and concepts allows healing energies to enter. Freeing up our habits including positive ones opens up the way for compassion. Ken Cohen gives us techniques for "fasting of the mind" and "dwelling in emptiness" and guided techniques for breathing and meditation that offer incredible relaxation, tension release and promote greater aliveness.

Parts of this set could have been called "How to enjoy your life in this human experience" and been supplied to everyone at birth - the world and each and every one of us would benefit enormously!

By following the Tao, balancing words and silence, action and inaction, and living a life of depth without over analysis, we can begin to know instinctively the best course of action enabling us to rediscover balance, harmony, beauty and happiness. The Tao is that indescribable yet vital key; the essence of life beneath life - the very answer you already have, yet through over-living and over-thinking it eludes you. As you listen, you can feel stored negativity draining away - it no longer has anything to cling to when the light of "The way" shines.

This set is a complete study and as such there will be parts that are deep and parts that you will want to listen to on a regular basis. As you slow down to catch up with yourself you get a glimpse of true reality and Ken Cohen delivers here what is best described as a masterful course to point the way.
