This review is from: Nurse On Wheels [DVD] [1963] (DVD)
This is another film from the Carry On production team with Juliet Mills as a newly appointed district nurse trying to cope with various 'country folk' and comedic situations. It's not as 'saucy' as the dvd cover would suggest, though!

3.0 out of 5 stars Carry On in all but name..., 5 Oct. 2009

This is basically a Carry On film, in all but name. Sid James - on great form - plays the leader of a gang of bungling crooks who try to find their loot after 15 years in jail; trouble is, the hiding place is now in the grounds of a new police station! The film 'carries on' with their various - hit & miss - attempts at retrieving the stolen lolly but there are plenty of laughs along the way, also courtesy of Dick Emery, Jim Dale & Joan Sims. The ending is very similar to the comedy Too Many Crooks, in which Sid also appeared.

They don't make 'em like this anymore - a top British TV star (Moore) and a top Hollywood star (Curtis) are teamed together to foil crimes and mysteries at home and abroad (usually the French Riviera!) with a mixture of thrills, spills and laughter. At the time it was the most expensive TV show and was originally aimed at the 'all-important' American market; sadly, it did not take off over there so the intended number of episodes was reduced. I loved it when I was 10 years old and I'm looking forward to watching the whole series again. It's a pity there's no-one like Lew Grade - who commissioned the show, along with the likes of The Saint, Danger Man and The Prisoner - around these days!
