5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, work well as thermal layer, 12 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I wear these under trousers just to stay warm. They're really comfortable, they fit well and they don't sag or require any hitching. When you wear them under socks, they keep your socks up even when wearing wellies. For thermal purposes, I've found they work even better than thick opaque tights. Plus it's always nice to know you're wearing frisky fishnets as you plodge through this endless wet winter.

It's not often you hear lyrics as good as this delivered in such a stunning, smoky voice by the person who actually wrote the song.

Dripping with authenticity, searingly hot, ravishingly beautiful. The voice, the lyrics, the delivery, the arrangement all work perfectly. It's gobsmacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works brilliantly, 23 July 2013

Stamps turn out surprisingly well, and are easy to carve. It's possible to get a lot out of this big block, especially if you're careful not to waste any space.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems like a lot of hassle, 23 July 2013

Certainly provides in-depth coverage, but convinced me that I can't be bothered with all that and will continue with the hit-and-miss laissez-faire approach.

Three Fragments of a Lost Tale: Sculpture and Story by John Frame
Three Fragments of a Lost Tale: Sculpture and Story by John Frame
by Kevin Murphy
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't add much to the material online, 3 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Most of the material in this book is available online, although it's nice to have the photos to pore over when you're not at the keyboard. As far as I know, the only new thing it offers is an overview of the actual Tale of the Crippled Boy, which casts new light on the characters.

Still, it's glossily done, and the photos ARE endlessly fascinating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delivers the goods, 3 Dec 2012

This book provides a bunch of nice colour reproductions of CRM's flower paintings, plus some of his abstract patterns, and sketches out his life and general context. It's a fairly slim volume, but does the job just fine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worryingly flimsy, 25 Feb 2011
It took a good 20 minutes to insert the bulbs into this thing. The whole contraption is worryingly flimsy, and even with careful handling, the bulbs never really click securely into place. With every adjustment it feels as if some bit of plastic is about to break off.

It does currently work, and does its job. Somehow I don't expect it to last very long though.

Zoo City

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful but patchy, 15 Jan 2011
This review is from: Zoo City (Paperback)
This lumbering beast of a story could have used a good combing and clipping before it was released into the wild. The plot keeps losing momentum, and to my mind there's too much jump-cutting, too many loose ends, and some very doubtful motivation at times. Also, when it comes to gore, less would have been more.

Still, there's lots to love, including the protagonist and the setting. Well worth a read.

Good Eggs
Good Eggs

Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Very engrossing, 17 Dec 2010
This review is from: Good Eggs (Hardcover)
A highly enjoyable and absorbing read. Feels like a good friend spilling the beans about whole quivering chunks of their life-experience, or like spending a few fascinating hours inside someone else's head.

Like all graphic novels, it's over too soon.
