5.0 out of 5 stars beautifully poetic and passionate., 2 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an absolute treasure, translated by a poetic woman, bringing to life the book of the dead and breathing passion into its pages. I bought it thinking i would flick through it and most likely sell it. But now i keep it by my bed and there it will stay forever. Take my advice and Chuck your soft porn '50 shades of puke' and go and get a copy of this if you want to know about the undying flames of passion.

5.0 out of 5 stars names the names so be ready for a shock to your belief system, 24 Jun 2013
This book was not originally meant for publishing for the public masses, it was designed with evidence including court documents primarily to keep Cathy O'Brien alive while on the run from those who were seeking to remove her fromm existence as her programming began to break down. The evidence she provides is highly compelling and when the forces of the atate and national security try to block your story and shut you up, it can only add to your credibility. And this is the case here. Cathy names the people who raped and abused her, many of whom are household names and political figures, such as the awful creep Dick Cheney, then vice president; many of whom were presidents of the United States including Ford, Reagan, George Bush senior and Clinton, and Hilary Clinton is also outed as a cruel vindictive satanist.Bush senior is named as a child-killing paedophile and one has to ask the question, if this is not true, then why has this woman not been taken to court and asked to provide evidence or be heavily sanctioned for her lies. The answer can ONLY be that she is not lying, for to take her to court would be to allow her testimony to stand and be made more public than it already is in this limited publication. This book is an insight into the true mental sickness which exists within the walls of government buildings, and that sickness is not cathy o brien's, but rather those politicians and 'entertainment' figures who controlled and used her while she was in a mind-controlled state, for which she was born into and trained for from a very young age.
Recommended reading would also include Brice Taylor's 'thanks for the memories' and a dvd which is also on youtube with Arizona Wilder, called 'confessions of a mother goddess.'

1.0 out of 5 stars oh dear oh dear, 22 Jun 2013
This review is from: 28 Days Later (2002) [DVD] (DVD)
It really is crap. Paint-dryingly slow pace, slow acting, slow reacting, slow speaking, and slow witted from the actors, the scriptwriter and the "brilliant" director. Must be a new definition of the word 'brilliant' that i haven't come across yet.Danny Boyle proved with his olympics ceremonies that he is an establishment dupe to be played with like a pawn and he delivered a ceremony saturated with images of paedophilia and satanic cultism which most people watched with dimwit expressions completely unaware of the underriding darkness. If you don't believe me, do some research.
In this hopeless drivel of a b movie, the usual 'horror' cliches of 'dont go off alone' are followed by everyone going off alone. The 'straw dogs syndrome' of the weak, skinny, apathetic, clueless pacifist who can suddenly outwit and beat off a whole brigade and save the 2 women from otherwise certain rape, which in real life would have already happened countless times before he had got back to save them. But no, the men decide to dress the women up in sexy underwear and surround them then wait patiently pointing guns at them and doing nothing. Yeah, very realistic. And the zombies kill everyone effortlessly except the 3 unarmed and defenceless clueless 'heroes' who have as much personality as they do acting ability: Zero. which is what i would give this film is i could. And minus 100 for the non entity that is Danny Boyle.

1.0 out of 5 stars If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it., 16 Jun 2013
Only an American film industry completely bereft of ideas and so greedy for an easy profit would try to outclass one of the best movie adaptations ever made, and they fail on every level.
Noomi Rapace was and is the girl with the dragon tattoo and any woman trying to compete with what was an oscar deserving performace in the original film,is fighting a losing battle. She didnt win the oscar because most American audiences are presumed to be too dim and lazy to be bothered to read subtitles. This new version is suitably dumbed down in an insult to their supposed mental level and as a result the script is devoid of all the subtleties of the original. Where the original treaded sensitively this one stomps like a clodhopper, and where the original had fear and suspense this one has an explanation in every conversation to take the edge of any emotion you might be feeling. The only emotion i was feeling was the overwhelming urge to chuck this dvd as far as i could, to remove Daniel Craig's feeble non-attempt at a Swedish accent, and Fincher's heavy-handed direction, and Zaillian's "write it as if your audience is a dumb cretin" script, and to put the faultlessly brilliant original version back on because it is 100,000,000 times better than this 'adult training centre' version. The only surprise i had with this is that they could mess it up as much as they did.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best line up,the best gig and the best album., 8 Jun 2013
This review is from: Concert - The Cure Live (Audio CD)
I was at the gig where most of these tracks were taken from and at the end of the night Robert thanked the crowd saying how much the band had enjoyed it.If they had only included a bit more of it, you would have heard why they enjoyed it so much.
'The Top'was a very underrated album and this gig is taken from the tour to promote it, but sadly the other tracks off the album, all of which were played on the night, don't get a look in here. Honestly, i wonder sometimes what is wrong with record companies. Why cut out half the tracks from the concert? It wouldnt kill them to make a proper live album with even just an extra 5 or 6 tracks.Don't they realise that the fans want this and more would have bought it if they had done it properly? Either they believe in the material or they don't. The original gig was sadly culled to these few tracks, which meant the best versions of tracks like 'M,' 'Play for today,' and 'The drowning man' were left off. I saw them 4 times over 8 years and this was by far the best line-up, the best gig, and also the best drummer they ever had.The closest they came to this kind of quality was at Glastonbury in 1986, when they played 'Faith' in the rain.
Thankfully we have the proper version of killing an arab on this album. What is all the PC nonsense with changing the title from 'killing an arab' to 'killing another' as can be seen on the Bestival live album in 2011? Here you get the original version, which by the way never made me hate or want to kill arabs. But if people are so easily influenced or upset by what was just a lyric inspired by a book by Albert Camus, then that's their problem. And by the way, when any cure fan goes to see them live i bet you any money you like that nobody singing along sings the word 'another.' What will be next? Maybe change the title 'primary' to 'comprehensive' so that the older kids won't get upset? Or change 'shake dog shake' to 'shake stuffed-dog shake,' in case the animal lovers get upset.

In The Crowd: Images of The Jam
In The Crowd: Images of The Jam

5.0 out of 5 stars A top class book by a true fan with a good camera, 6 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you are a Jam fan and are wondering if it is worth buying a book just of photos, don't even hesitate, just buy it because it is top quality and has some written notes from the author too. I got emotional just looking at the first few photos and what he wrote about how the band used to let all the fans into the soundchecks, because i still remember what the Jam meant to me growing up.
This book is quite a solid chunky item, the pages are quite thick and the quality of print is excellent.
What i really like is that the photos are large and mostly fill a single page so don't get ruined by being 'cut in half' by using both sides of the book. Admittedly Four or five do, but they don't cut someone's face in half with the spine of the book and the best photos are kept to single pages only. The integrity of each shot is there to be seen, so thank god for common sense, as other books on the Jam have had many poorly printed photos or photos too grainy or pretentiously in black and white or too small or poorly positioned in the book. This book has none of those faults, and the photos are taken by a guy who was invited in by the band into the fold to help take photos for the absolute beginners sleeve, so his shots are unique and have some intimacy to them. And yet most were taken either in soundchecks or gigs and he was an amateur photographer, so considering all that, he managed to get some really great photos, and many which show the energy and wildness of the gigs and a side to the band most other photographers never captured.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for the Jam family, 31 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Honestly i never thought i would have bought a book written by a compilation of fans of a band, but the Jam were not a band like any other. That's why 30 years later we are still looking for the missing tracks, the unreleased demos, the bootleg dvds and cd's, the photos we haven't seen before. When i went to see Weller solo in 1990 just after the council split, he was at a real low, but standing in the queue waiting to go in I met a whole load of harcore jam fans who proceeded to talk for an hour about Jam gigs and going backstage and getting in to soundchecks. I felt part of a family in a way that i never had before. This group of fans were not there in this strength at the style council gigs, but in 1990 we all seemed to come back together and Weller came onstage with his Jam haircut and one of his old Jam shirts, and he banged out 4 Jam tracks and the whole place went nuts. That was 8 years after the band had split, but the torch was still burning. I went to over 100 gigs of many bands but i never experienced anything quite like that before or after. So i understand this book and the people who write in it. What I came away with more than anything was what a tower of strength John Weller was and how respectful of the fans he was.If ever there was a 4th member of any band it was John Weller with the Jam. Of course i came away wanting more, and wishing there were more photos and more setlists and more from Paul, Bruce and Rick than the brief comment you get. But ultimately it is a book for fans by fans, so as long as you know this and accept it, then it is a beautiful trip back to a time when we were young and used to fall in love with everyone.

Imagine a lot of weak-willed suicidal condemned nasty-spirited people all living in the same area of a sewer-like environment, and then imagine them being the heart of a movie. All i can say is that it was very well acted, but the story depressed me to the point where i almost never want to watch anything again. If you find this entertaining then God only knows what your life must be like. All 3 stars are for Javier Bardem who somehow managed to drag some dignity into his character out of the shell he was handed to work with.

1.0 out of 5 stars misses on every level for me, 27 May 2013

Slow in a pretentious way, hiding the fact that the writer and director simply lack a good enough story and in my opinion completely failed to find an appropriate style of presentation. They couldnt even be bothered to research the music of the time, preferring to go for 'nights in white satin' which was nowhere to be seen in 1899. It really needs an injection of a hearbeat here somewhere to make it rise above the tedious non-entity level of dialogue and 'non-action'presented here as a realistic depiction of a brothel in 1899. It reminded me of watching the highlights of a football match without any football. We watch the teams getting changed into kit, we listen to the tedious interviews before the game with the moronic John Terry equivalent, we see the dim-witted gum-chewing Alex Ferguson trying to coerce a performance from his main players, then they saunter out onto the pitch and the film ends. That is the way this director and writer would make a film about football.A total waste of my time. Bertrand Bonello you owe me 2 hours of life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Speaks to the loneliness, 27 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This film is a masterclass of writing, acting, and directing. Paul Schrader admits to being a bit like Travis when he wrote this, and so he empathised with the loneliness and the contradictions of a personality who wants love but when he gets a date, takes her to a porno theatre to show her what a loser he is. And who writes in his diary about the importance of getting healthy and then sits staring at a tv popping pills and eating bread and cereals laced with whiskey. He is a social misfit, a reject determined to remain rejected, because to his subconscious mind this is what he deserves, no matter what he writes and says. I like that the script doesnt explain why he is this way, but just shows the behaviour and allows our imagination to fill in the gaps. De Niro prepared by driving a taxi and he IS the character more than in any other movie he made.
The only scenes that i don't quite believe are those between Travis and Betsy, played by Cybill Shepherd. Here the writing is not so realistic, as i don't believe she would go out with a guy like him, not even for a coffee, and when he tells her he feels there is a strong connection between them, and asks if she feels the same, she replies "I wouldnt be here if i didn't." That is the worst line in the whole movie, but is taken from many ad-libbed versions of scenes between the two actors, who never look comfortable together. That aside, Taxi Driver spoke to the souls of thousands of lonely outsiders, rejects, so called losers in life, but in reality it is the life itself that is fundamentally unnatural for humans to live in, being a slave-like existence with little or no affection or love.Travis reacts in a natural way to this unnatural city existence, and so for me he is normal, while all the people who put forward a fake front of self control and enjoyment in place of the turmoil they should be exhibiting, it is they who are the unnatural ones. Scorcese's best film and De Niro's best acting.
