3.0 out of 5 stars Atom Heart Muddle., 18 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Atom Heart Mother (Audio CD)
Experimental music suffers from a lack of direction and muddy sounding production. Nick Mason's drums sound particularly thick sounding. The whole thing is a bit of a mish-mash. It does have a few saving graces such as Fat Old Sun and If. For die hard fans only.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underated masterpiece., 30 July 2010
To be blunt, this track is about the only reason you should bother with David Gilmour's second album which took a decidedly commercial turn, but this track is exceptional and a cut above your typical rock instrumnetal. All in the best possible taste and never a note wasted.

5.0 out of 5 stars 101 Compliments!, 3 May 2010
After recently attending an animation masterclass in London staged by Pixar, I decided on purchasing a copy of this DVD as it was refered to quite a bit in the first day lecture. What can I say about it that hasn't already been said? It's wonderful and any serious student or lover of animation should buy it. You'll be intrigued to know just how Cruella De Ville's car was "animated" but I won't spoil it for you if you haven't already seen the extras. Quite simply nearly fifty years later it is still a breath taking master stroke and one of Disney's most celebrated films. Cruella De Ville is still one of the best ever screen villans and never to be repeated or equalled but much imitated the character animation is pure genius, the high water mark of Disney's nine old men. If only todays films had this much charm and character then I would never be out of the cinema but sadly CG has turbed things rather cold for my tastes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outside the Floyd., 8 Feb. 2010
This review is from: David Gilmour (Audio CD)
This is David Gilmour at his best quite simply playing his guitar and singing well. The material is less complicated than Floyd albums of the same era the songs are short and accessible and the lead guitar work is superb as you would expect. The instrumental material is infinitely preferable to any of the guitar shredder's that came to dominate the rock scene in late eighties/early nineties. This album is a must for any Floyd/Gilmour fan. Buy it!

Scorched Earth (2005 Digital Remaster)

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but amazing., 26 Feb. 2009
If your going to download this album avoid the bonus material because the audio quality is very poor and not worth the the price but the remaster is excellent. Thematically the band visit some new territory and the performances shine as usual. In a few words vibrant and intense stuff from a band who knows no boundaries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Out of this world., 26 Feb. 2009
This album represents a high water mark for Britiash progressive rock music and is truly yet another masterpiece from VDGG. It takes Peter Hammill's lyrical obssessions to the extreme and the band take their sound to the limit often stretching the constraints of studio technology. The bonus material is well worth a listen, I'd say try before you buy and avoid any live recordings included as bonuses because the audio quality is poor. Diminutions is a particualrly impressive bonus track that is unlike anything else the band have ever done in thir career and reminds of Brian Eno or minimalist composers of that ilk and would be somewhat at home on the 2001 A Space Odyssey soundtrack. The rest is of a charcateristically intense nature and takes some getting used to even for a die hard fan like myself.

My Room (Waiting For Wonderland) (2005 Digital Remaster)
My Room (Waiting For Wonderland) (2005 Digital Remaster)

5.0 out of 5 stars VDGG grow up., 26 Feb. 2009
This album is without doubt one of the best and most complete of all the VDGG albums. Peter Hammill's song writing at it's finest and the musician ship is superb. What really stands out is the fact that the subject matter has matured greatly from the usual occult fascinations to dealing in more meta physical realms. Every song is a first class piece of work and easily stands up to repeated listenings time and time over. This is truly a masterpiece and sounds as good today as the day it was released. The bonus track is a disappointment and after sampling it I decided not to purchase the last track as it spoils what is otherwise a brilliant and very complete album. Sometimes bonus material just doesn't add anything to the package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leave your cynicism behind and read on..., 26 Jan. 2009
What makes this book so readable is the modest humanity of Stephen's approach. He has worn his heart on his sleeve and is not ashamed to share his quite traumatic experiences in his earlier life. If he can do it then anyone can, it can't just be blind luck. Since reading this book my outlook has changed and my personal wealth doubled. My career lanquished in the doldrums, just like Noel Edmonds did, and through applying the methods in this book I managed to regain my confidence and start moving forward again. It is a small price to pay and I have reread it numerous times as the wear and tear on the paperback spine will testify. I still regularly reread it when ever the going gets tough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellnt refernce book for anatomy for artists., 23 Sept. 2008
After borrowing this book from my local lbrary countless times I finally decided to buy a copy and if you can get a hard back copy then it is definately worth the price as this is the best ever book on animal anatomy I,ve ever seen. The paperback edition is not quite so lavish but still really good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive history of animation production and visual styles, 23 Sept. 2008
Don't listen to the previous review - it is definately not poor quality in terms of printing and the images are excellent. It is not a "how to do it.." book but a comprehensive history of animation production in both TV and film which is quite educational. It covers much material that would be omitted from other books of a more mainstream focus. It is a coffee table book and the images are quite lavish. It is not essntail reading however, if you just want to improve your technique get Tim Whites new book - "Pencils to Pixels" or "The Animator's Survival Kit" by Richard Williams.
