From start to finish a gripping thriller that moves at a blistering pace. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Looking forward to more from this writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable, 3 Jan. 2014

Gripping pace, well drawn and contrasting characters. Sergeant Heckenberg is as good a main character as Morse or Jane Tennyson. The Tv roots of the writer are evident in the fast pace and the dialog that constantly moves the plot forward. Excellent all round.

I have to say I really enjoyed this book. The opening exposition and the multiple character threads took a little too long to be developed. However once the character of Elmo is the centre of focus the story takes off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lasted 3 months, 14 Mar. 2013
Lasted only 3 months before big toe went through the top of the sock. Usage 3x per week. Would have hoped for at least another 6 to 8 months of usage.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sorry I made the effort., 5 Sept. 2005
This review is from: It's All Right Now (Paperback)
I hate giving up on a book and with the sheer volume of pages this proved to a huge challenge. In hindsight I should have given up half way. The writing in parts is very good indeed but the book suffers from a large amount of story that goes nowhere leaving the reader confused and frustrated. A keener editor would have helped make it a more successful book overall. Probably the key relationship between the writer and his daughter in law only surfaces very late on and is very brief. The last chapters cry out for some kind of direction but it is not there.
In summary, good at the start and certainly does succeed in evoking a sense of the 60's 70's and 80's but don't expect to be satisfied by the ending.
