5.0 out of 5 stars underrated hammer horror, 11 April 2013

This review is from: Lust For A Vampire [DVD] (DVD)
not a review ,more of a backlash !
i am tired of people putting this film down,i think this is becuase
1.peter cushing and christopher lee are not in it !
2 director jimmy sangster + ralph bates seemed to hate it
3 people seem to be easily led by the above
4.the critics hate it

i think it is a great film-very atmospheric ,and some fantastic locations ,and i also will stick my neck out and say that i think the song "strange love " featured in film is great !
this, like a lot of hammer films are not always out to do shock and gore horrors ,but more dreamy -atmospheric films ,if you want gore and violence ,buy amercian
horrors.
these films are more like gothic fantasy, than out and out horror
i also dont feel the nudity is bad ,it is all very tastefully done, unlike some of the euro horrors who rely on nudity over the story !
i am pleased to say hammer have always been a cut above this
i am going to be brave and give this 5 stars
ps i also rate dracula ad 72 in high regard

1.0 out of 5 stars WRONG RATIO !, 3 Sept. 2012
Murder Rooms - The Mysteries of the Real Sherlock Holmes - The Patient's Eyes, The Photographer's Chair, The Kingdom of Bones & The White Knight Stratagem - Starring Ian Richardson + In the Footsteps of Sherlock Holmes - Patrick Macnee [DVD]
This box set is in wrong ratio ,it says 16.9 on back of dvd cover ,yet the 4 films are in 4.3 and look very up close ,as if you have put your zoom on via your remote control, and the result is everyone looks short and wide!
The featurette is in 16.9 however this looks as if it was in 4.3 and has been stretched into 16.9 which begs the question did someone get the ratios mixed up in the editing room ?
I phoned the company imcvision, and was told they did not think it was wrong and were very smug about this problem ,and not really bothered at all,and they will still sale this product ,and will not be looking into this matter
how rude !

Miss Lizzie
Miss Lizzie
by Walter Satterthwait
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Miss Lizzie, 27 July 2011
This review is from: Miss Lizzie (Hardcover)
I bought this on impulse thinking it was a true account of the case, I was disappointed when I realised it was a novel. I'm not a fan of novels but I decided to give it a go and I was pleasantly surprised.

It is written from 13 year old Amanda's point of view. Lizzie Borden is now an elderly woman living on her own in Massachusetts, trying to get away from her nororious past. Amanda's father and step-mother rent the house next door to Lizzie's and Amanda soon becomes fascinated with her in-famous neighbour.

Lizzie and Amanda soon become secret friends, spending many afternoons having tea and Lizzie teaches her card tricks.

Amanda's home life seems to mirror Lizzie's past life, she hates her step-mother but adores her father. The house is scarily exactly the same lay-out as the Fall River House where the axe murders were carried out several decades before.

When Amanda's step-mother is brutally murdererd with an axe the obvious suspect is of course Lizzie. But did she really do it? Or could the sleepy seaside town be hiding dark secrets.

Lizzie hires a tough Pinkerton agent and gets herself a suave local lawyer, together with Amanda they set out to solve the mystery of who really is the new axe murderer.

A surprisingly good read, I couldn't put it down and would highly recommend it to anyone with any interest in this case.

4.0 out of 5 stars POOR SOUND, 16 Mar. 2011
This review is from: The Woman In Question [DVD] (DVD)
i love this film and looked forward to this release on dvd,the picture is fantastic and very clean, however the sound on mine has a fault ,when the actors say a word with an s or t it sounds very distorted and louder than words without these letters,i know it sounds crazy ,but i have it on video and the sound is correct pitch, and in no way distorted, it sounds really bad throughout chapter 2 .
i have contacted odeon about this and they are looking into this, anyone else have this problem?
