The book contains two parallel tracks:
(1) An account of the author's memory training, which culminates with him becoming US master.
(2) The history of memorization techniques, how the memory works, etc.
Both tracks are interesting, and mixing them makes for a much more interesting book than if the focus were on only one of the tracks.
