Jostein Gaarder is a favorite Norwegian author of mine, and I thought he had a great idea in writing this book. I have seen him on Norwegian tv and found him to be a compelling personality. Still, I found the story of Sofie, less than compelling. I found myself skiping over the storyline and on to the presentation of the next philosopher, the part about the book I liked best. Perhaps it is because I am older and the storyline is meant for younger reader, I don't know. Still I am impressed with the success of this book and I thank him for this excellant teaching aid for introducing philosophy to new readers.
