5.0 out of 5 stars A first novel published second?, 27 Feb. 2005
This review is from: Contest (Paperback)
Why no one wanted to publish this when he wrote it I'll never know!
Believable plot, believable characters albethey alien, and a man's desire to protect his offspring, one of the most basic of instincts, which enables him to win a competition that he would never hve entered if he had the choice. This book kept me spellbound!

5.0 out of 5 stars My first read of this author, 27 Feb. 2005
A good story line, good background (was the University really that hated though!), nice characters, and a bumbling detective. THis is the first Susanna Gregory I've read and I will read some others (promise!)
Yes the plot twists and turns, but it's a detective story, shouldn't they always do that. This book kept me up til 2am to finish it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A departure for Grisham, 27 Feb. 2005
This review is from: Bleachers (Paperback)
Others have already described the plot, OK so it's a departure from his usual stuff, but like 'A Painted House' it works. It's in a quieter less cynical mood than all those courtroom dramas but it conjures up small town America and the importance of sport in American culture

3.0 out of 5 stars Shirley Maclain still amuses, 27 Feb. 2005
This review is from: Sweet Charity [DVD] (DVD)
Who doesn't know the song 'Big Spender'?
Still one of Shirley's best movies, pity the soundtrack during dialogue is a bit muffled it could have done with the treatment they've given to the music

I remember the theme tune so well from listening to the Light programme from the BBC on SUnday afternoons and I've seen the film 4 times. It still good after all these years!

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring is the word, 27 Feb. 2005
I started with 'Bored of the Rings' which I found hilarious, I coped with 'Barry Trotter' which was equally as good as Harry Potter, but this is one parody too far! It will be OK if you haven't read the other two parodies!

The Pursuit of Alice Thrift

3.0 out of 5 stars Witty and surprising, 27 Feb. 2005
