5.0 out of 5 stars Fab for holding small things, 20 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this for jewellery making as my hands kept slipping or getting skinned! This is brilliant for holding rings etc while working on them. The leather insets hold items gently but firmly, and the method of just driving the wedge in the other end is easy to do by hand. Sometimes the olds ways are the best!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok if you aren't an active sleeper or are very tender, 20 May 2013
This is a good wide pillow with a firm feel, slightly softened by the memory foam layer. It is very light though, and is easy to kick out of place if you are a restless sleeper. I would recommend a long ribbon to tie it down at least.
I have given up using it in bed, however it is great for day use on a footstool. So just BR cautious, and this could be a very useful item if its right for you

Lonely Planet Venice & the Veneto (Travel Guide)
Lonely Planet Venice & the Veneto (Travel Guide)

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a great guide, but map links, webs links and all!, 6 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Lonely planet are great guide books that cater for all budgets, clearly labelling things by type and by price. Even the travel tips by themselves tend to pay for the book several times over, leaving your more money for food and shopping - which, lets face it, is a big draw in Italy!

This is a great guide book for buying well before your trip as you can highlight and bookmark anywhere you would like to go, and even categorise your bookmarks by colour. The choice of maps is great, as venice has some stupidly long street names for very short streets, so you dont get them all on one map ever. A tip for trying to actually not get lost is to read the street name backwards. Well, sort of! The names are often such as "the small street by the big bridge near the sqare of the church of santa maria" but in Italian. The hiuse numbers are next as they number by region, so a small street like this can have 3 houses, but be numbers 3210 to 3213. So basically, find the church, then the square, then look round at the bridges and pontoons and the numbers by them. Its a bit whacky, but you soon get used to it. If you are not going digital, buy two guide books or maps - seriously, you really need two! Ts is why I like having the ability to use two digital map providers for venice.

As for the information, it covers everything from when to go, to what to do if you love sightseeing or gormet food, or have young children, or are disabled, or have no money, or even the whole lot at once! If you are staying for longer than a few days, then its no so essential to plan, but I strongly recommend this if you are taking a short trip. I have been several times, but usually by boat, so only get a few days in venice and murano or burano both of which are definately worth the trip too.

A great guide book gone digital from one of the best travel companies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that is beautiful in its dark simplicity, 2 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Magnus Mills is an expert at taking a simplle situation, then drawing you in so competely that you dont realise at first how things are slowly warping!

I think this is his best book - its short, but leaves a lasting impression far beyond many reads. The story is a man, who finds himself in his lifes dream of living simply in a tin house with a tin roof in what we assume is somewhere in America or Canada. Everything seems fine until one day a woman knocks on the door and just says "so this is where you have been hiding!"

The story, and then his life starts to unravel as she moves in and changes his dream in a very odd way.

If you like reading just for the hell of it, then give this book a go, it is fairly undescribable, but everyone I have lent this to agrees its great, if rather strange....

5.0 out of 5 stars Pratchett does victorian london - brilliant, 2 Mar 2013
I hadnt realised this wasnt a discworld book, but this wasnt a problem at all. In fact it was nice to be able to visualise the victorian streets, clothes and sewers described in the book, but so oftem shown on TV. The main protagonist is a skinny, underfed teenager who make his way toshing, or picking up dropped coins and other valuables from the london sewer system. Understandably this is getting slowly worse as people link their toilets to the system instead of it just being for storm water!

Much to his surprise this urchin finds himself coming to the rescue of a girl being badly beaten and left in the gutter when he chases the villans away. This leads to both the mystery of the girl and her past, and perhaps a way for Dodger to change himself in the process.

I found the book a mix of wry humour and laugh out loud situations, mixing the good and bad as only Pratchett seems to do so well these days. As usual much of the humour comes from real life absurdity, and as such is enjoyable by both the young for the obvious humour, and the mich older better read for the witty references to life and culture.

Fans wont be disappointed, and may be good to bring some new readers to the fold who may be more inclined to try his other books after such a good historical fiction romp!

5.0 out of 5 stars These really do seem to last forever, 25 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had one on my iPhone, which had withstood months of just chucking in my bag alongside keys, and other accoutrements, without noticeable damage, so after several failed cheap screens, gave up and bought this. It has now been on my ipad for a couple of years or so, with just a gel surround on the back and edges, and it has happily withstood the same level of abuse!

Expensive, but excellent. Some people dont like the slightly orange peel surface, but I find this cuts glare, so am happy about this.

I got fed up of a short lead that kept getting nicked by my husband, so bought this. The quality seems good, I havent tried it for synching, just charging so cant comment on that. The colour stands out nicely in a dark corner with slate floors!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great value icebreaker legging, 25 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This isnt the same finish quality as the sports ranges, as it has normal seams down both sides instead of flat stitching, but toher than that seems to be the same high quality merino that you can just chuck in the washing machine and dry overnight. These really are the rolls royce of leggings for thermal use. They dont stay as perfect shape as synthetic fibres, but I use them instead of tights on cold days under a skirt or long boots for which this doesnt matter. That said, they do keep fairly good shape. I sized down, being inbetween sizes - waist small, hips curvey! - and this has worked well fit wise.

If you are used to icebreaker, and wondering like I was what GSM it is, then Inowuld put it between 150 amd 200 for thickness and opacity. They would therefore be great for most weathers from hot to cold, but not really alpine. The ends are hemmed, but only a small hem, so would be fine to tuck into boots. Lengthwise, they are regular compared to marks or next.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO many pockets! And fits my laptop too, 25 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Wanted something fun, and fabric so as to be lighter to lug around in the summer. I usually get kipling, but by the time you want to fit a laptop in, they just dont have the same number of pockets etc. My new found lust for desihual is my sister in laws fault, but they do such fab colours and designs I couldnt resist.

This is great, fits happily all my make up, medical supplies, laptop, some paperwork, a couple of notebooks, and then you have the outside pockets too! Yes its not as strong as leather, but feels sturdy, and looks well finished, and good value for the money. It has already raised quite a few envious comments from work mates, and I am now off to use it as a weekend bag. I like the option of a shoulder strap, and various levels of security on the pockets - e.g glasses in cases and water bottles sit in the open side or magnetic closure pockets on the ends. Then there are zipped or even buckled smaller pockets, and a zip pocket inside easily big enough for a big purse and chequebook. My iphone slips nicely into the open pocket on the front for wandering round locally, but would probably pop it in a safer pocket in town.

My laptop is a lenovo lightwieght one x200 with large battery - you wouldnt be able to get anything much larger than this through the zipped top easily, but loads of room once its in. I will edit this if anything goes wrong, but otherwise assume its still in use on dry days! ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value and well thought out, 13 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is surprisingly sturdy, and well designed.

The thing folds neatly in half to store away. To unfold it, you push the legs gently to the side and they unclip, and then are supported by a turned catch, so they dont collapse. The legs extend independantly so good if your settee slopes, or you want to put the front legs on a footstool. You wouldnt want hips of more than 115cm or you wont fit inside the legs!

The top is in two parts - one bit slopes to varying heights so you can put the laptop screen at eye level. It has a nice flip out mini shelf so it doesnt slide off, but also narrow enough to not get in the way of a pretty slim laptop. This also works as an ipad viewing angle for videos etc. the right hand side is static so you can out your mouse on a cushioned section, and room for a drink behind it. Or else it can just be a snack shelf! No good for left handers though if you want to use a mouse, unless you are happy to use it flat.

I havent tried the USB fans yet, its been too darn cold! But I can see my husband liking to nick it for that reason in the summer.

Great value for what it is, just dont expect the solidity you would get from metal or oak!
