5.0 out of 5 stars An original and refreshing book, 19 Oct 2003
This review is from: Holes (Paperback)
Holes is one of the most refreshing books I have read recently and one which I found almost impossible to put down, even though I thought I knew what its conclusion would be. The totally likelable character of Stanley Yelnats carries the plot along at pace which makes you want to pick up the book and re-read as soon as it's finished. The slightly 'tongue in cheek' tone of the book and the black humour make it a throughly enjoyable novel for both older children and adults alike. A must if you've got a spare evening or two!

5.0 out of 5 stars An ordinary, but interesting woman indeed, 24 July 2003
I relished every sentence of Diary of an Ordinary Woman. The clarity and honesty of Millicent Kings' diary entries are engaging and, at times, very moving. For a modern day woman, Millicent's diaries, which span practically the entire twentieth century, provide a context in which the minutae of our own 'ordinary' lives can be evaluated. An excellent and compelling read.
