1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth getting in my opinion, 26 Jun. 2015

The machine itself isn't bad (with one reservation) but the instructions are more or less non-existent. They look as if they've been translated from Chinese to English by someone who understands neither language and they're more or less useless in helping one to set up and use the machine; you just have to work things out by trial and error.

The chuck key, too, is a weird design which goes completely round the chuck collar. This means that one can only use drills and burrs that are smaller in diameter than the hole in the chuck key, which precludes using most grinding stones. Unless there's something clever in the instructions that I can't understand!

Excellent book, with all the detail one needs about the ship, especially for the model-maker.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good survey of the business analyst's role, 19 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As the co-author of a rival book to this, I was pre-disposed not to like it from the start but, actually, it is very good. Mr Blais understands that the business analyst's role is more than just 'gathering requirements' (a concept which he lampoons most effectively) but at understanding business needs and helping to satisfy them. It's a rather long book for its subject but is not a hard read and Mr Blais's insights are backed up by illustrations drawn from his extensive consulting experience. The final chapter, which looks at how business analysis may develop in the future, very much aligns with my own view of the centrality of this role in modern organisations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too true - but who will listen?, 19 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book articulates what many of us who have been slogging away in the corporate world for years have thought. It explains how the recent mantra of 'lean and mean' in business actually leads to organisations that have less flexibility to respond to new changes and less adaptability to new circumstances. Whether the book will do any good is another matter. C-suite executives, keen to massage the quarter's results to improve their own bonuses are famously impervious to logic and, unfortunately, less concerned with the long-term success of their organisations than with making a quick buck before moving on to their next glorious triumph.
