Lethal Experiment (a Donovan Creed Novel Book 2)
Lethal Experiment (a Donovan Creed Novel Book 2)

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine short read when travelling, 12 July 2014
A more balanced Creed story here with a bit more character development with Creed and Kathleen, as well as Callow and her partner. Creed tries to help Callow and gets into trouble as well as being sick with psychological blackouts. It becomes a tad unbelievable, but that is what we come to expect with Donovan Creed. This is an ok read when travelling, but don't expect a literary classic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Standard fare from Locke, 12 July 2014

The Donovan Creed series are fine for quick reads o.n a train or plane journey. The stories are mildly entertaining albeit shallow. The characters are rather incredulous but that is half the fun. In this story Donovan helps mess up the mind of a computer geek money launderer. At the same time, the victims wife, Rachel needs saving.

A blatant Reacher copy in every respect, but it unashamedly works and is a fantastic story. Highly recommended before Lee Child calls his lawyer.

Tucker and Kane were ok as part of the Sigma team, but I did not find them strong enough characters to hold this plot together. The military canine abilities whilst incredible do wear thin after a while. The general plot was ok but dragged on and overall I found this a bit of a chore.

3.0 out of 5 stars Implausible but fun, 27 May 2014

A good action adventure with Will Robie and Jessica Reel although it is most implausible. I thought the political connotations were exaggerated and a bit too sugary where North Koreans have the impression that New Yorkers smile all the time as it is such a great place and evidently Utopia. This didn’t overly distract from the story which was fast flowing and thrilling, but it was far from a classic from Baldacci. I also predict a new hit-girl series with Julie Getty and Min, but hopefully Baldacci will resist the editors demands to churn this out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 4th instalment, 23 April 2014

I really try not to like Archers books given his history, he is not en easy person to like, however, i must admit he is a master story teller. The fourth chronicle is far better than the second and third, but not quite the first. The story primarily covers Emma's boardroom wranglings in the ship building business as well as the dynasties of both the Barrington and Clifton families. The novel is engrossing and well written and is easy to read. Master story telling indeed. Archer has been proven to tell some tall tales.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to form, 23 April 2014

Coben is back to form with this thriller. Yes- it follows his staple of someone going missing and a plot leading to dark secrets from the past. This time we also get a current thriller where someone is using online dating sites for criminal activity. The two plots converge well and the tension is high. It really is a page turner and I finished the book in a few sittings. Recommended.

THE KING OF MACAU (The Jack Shepherd International Crime Novels)
THE KING OF MACAU (The Jack Shepherd International Crime Novels)

4.0 out of 5 stars A rich Macanese thriller, 4 Mar 2014

Needham’s trouble- fixing lawyer Jack Shepherd is hired by Stanley Ho’s daughter to track a money laundering syndicate in her Macau casino whilst at the same time help a friend of a friend get political asylum in the U.S. Its usual fare for Shepherd as he tracks up and down the Hong Kong mid levels escalator, Macau ferry and the sights of the former Portuguese colony avoiding triads and trying to stay alive. It is the rich and spicy flavour of Asia that makes Needham’s stories so enjoyable. He is up there with Stephen Leather and John Burdett in using these backdrops with such vibrancy. My only criticism is that the story just seemed to end rather abruptly. Unfortunately with a kindle, it is hard to see if someone had ripped out the last chapter.

Fear Nothing (Detective D.D. Warren 7)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but the suspense faded, 4 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The plot started well with DD Warren injured as a perp returned to the crime scene and pushed our detective downstairs. A series of ritual killings where the victims had their skin carefully points at a couple of sisters who descend from a father with a similar modus operandi. This is a complex case for DD where Gardner brings in several strong characters to the story. Overall though I found the plot faded after three quarters where the suspense ebbed and it became fairly predictable and in the end not so thrilling.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid adventure from Hope, 8 Jan 2014

Ben Hope is asked to repay a favour to an Army colleague who saved his life, by avenging the death of his son who was an archaeologist on a quest in Egypt. In this adventure, Hope falls in love and has to solve the quest himself against numerous enemies as he treks across Egypt and The Sudan. The Lost Relic is a thrilling Indianna Jones type story.
