5.0 out of 5 stars Roller Coaster Of A Read!, 8 Jan. 2014

Justin's latest novel is a real roller coaster of a read! Fast paced and just when you think you know where it might be going - think again! Don't want to say too much so as not to give too much away but I would definitely recommend this as a great read at a great price.
For those of us that like certain types of music, Justin cleverly weaves references into the plot which although adds a hidden dimension if you're in the know, never detracts from a rollicking good read! Couldn't put it down - enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's A Winner, 12 Nov. 2012
This review is from: Invicta (Audio CD)
I have been an Enid fan since their early days and much prefer their earlier work. I came to this new album unsure about the addition of a singer - mainly because earlier attempts to add this to the classic Enid sound have been a bit hit and miss,
But, in all honesty Invicta is a beautiful album and one that takes the band into new realms.
The layers of sound are indeed haunting in places but the album is not without humour as well as power and emotion.
I still have my doubts about the addition of vocals to earlier works but this album is indeed a revelation and one I heartily recommend to one and all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hazards? A 'Safe' Bet, 22 April 2009

Hazards of love is getting fave reviews across the board and I can only add to that by giving it 5 starts.
A concept album but that shouldn't put you off. The album winds a thoroughly enjoyable course through the 'Hazards' and takes in a variety of musical styles but never loses sight of a decent tune.
Definately an album for your collection!

Playing golf has not diminished this Wicked Young(?) Man! And I for one am very glad to hear it - Dragontown is as heavy as Brutal Planet but still has a lightness of touch by clever use of over the top lyrics and Alice doing his utmost to shock - but all in the best (Worst?) possible taste!
Standout tracks for me are 'Disgraceland' - where Alice does a superb Elvis that WILL NOT please fans of the burger eating King!(Can't wait to see this live!) 'It's Much Too Late' - lighter than most on the album but wicked words! and the token Ballad - 'Every Woman Has A Name'
Ladies and Gentlemen - The new King has entered the building!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring On The Roine!, 6 Oct. 2001
This review is from: Retropolis (Audio CD)
Roine Stolt & Co have done it again. Their prolific output never seems to dip in quality and The Rainmaker is certainly going to win yet more fans for its quality Prog rock.
The CD is long (Over 70 minutes) but the tracks are a little shorter than on previous albums - condensing the highly melodic tunes works well. The quality of musicianship is top notch (as usual) and the sound is spot on. There are prog experiments inter-laced with jazz, rock, pop and even a little music that would work well as a film score.
All in all this is a lovely album that would be well worth a buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars wow!, 26 Mar. 2001

If, like me, you've been listening to prog since the late 60's and if, like me you wish Gabriel had stayed with Genesis and if, like me you buy prog CDs by the truck load from all over the World - its great to find that 'special' CD. I hadn't really taken much notice of IQ but THE SEVENTH HOUSE really made me sit up and take notice. The album kicks in with the superbly titled THE WRONG SIDE OF WEIRD which rocks with the best of them, EROSION follows with sweeping keys and voice before chugging guitars lift it to another plane - as so it goes on through to the finale in the form of GUIDING LIGHT, another rocker but not until the trade mark melodious keys. It's not a perfect album but it IS a superb prog effort from a band that really know their stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars 7th Heaven!, 13 Dec. 2000

A simple concept, the seventh song from each of Vai's earlier CDs is a song "more devotional than technical" - A guitar ballad for want of a better term. This 'new' CD is a collection of those songs and it really is a beauty. Slightly less experimentation and out and out fretboard madness, Vai weaves swift delicate fingers over his guitar strings to bring one hell of an album. With three 'Bonus' tracks for fans who will have all the other tracks this is still a fine album from the cover to the last groove. The perfect introduction to the man and once you've let this album win you over, you might be brave enough to try one of the others!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool!, 6 Dec. 2000
This review is from: Free Spirit (Audio CD)
Joe Satriani said this was 'One cool CD'- No arguments from me! Darren lives in Hertfordshire (England) but if he carries on playing this good - he's set for World domination. A guitar player that can play - not just at speed but with feeling, guts and , when needed- a delicate touch. There are similarities to Satriani & Vai but some of the songs on 'Spirit' are as good as - if not better. Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Beauty!, 6 Dec. 2000
This review is from: Secrets Of Astrology (Audio CD)
With new musicians and writing collaborations, Lana has added a heavier edge to her music but lost none of its beauty. Chunking riffs, soaring vocals and keyboards a plenty make 'Secrets' closer to the Prog tag that is part of her make up and by far the most accomplished album from this West Coast rocker. There are touches of AOR in here but don't let that put you off.
