4.0 out of 5 stars A GUILTY PLEASURE IN PARADISE, 9 April 2016

OKAY I ADMIT IT,THIS MOVIE AND ITS SOUNDTRACK IS MY GUILTY PLEASURE,I LOVE ALL THE SONGS EVEN IF SOME OF THEM ARE A BIT SILLY (QUEENIE WAHINIS PAPAYA).1965 WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT ELVIS DID NOT RECORD ANY MUSIC THAT WAS NOT INTENDED FOR THE MOVIES,THREE SOUNDTRACKS (HAREM HOLIDAY,FRANKIE AND JOHNNY AND PARADISE HAWAIIAN STYLE) WERE THE SUM TOTAL OF HIS RECORDING ACTIVITIES.THIS RELEASE HAS QUITE A BIT FOR THE COLLECTOR WITH THE MOVIE VERSIONS OF DATIN,SCRATCH MY BACK AND HOUSE OF SAND.QUITE A FEW TAKES OF THE UNUSUAL AND BEAUTIFUL SAND CASTLES,AND TAKE 7 OF A DOGS LIFE WHICH ELVIS SINGS IN A DIFFERENT KEY ON THE VERSES.YOU ALSO GET THE BAND RECORDING THE BACKING TRACK TO QUEENIE WAHINIS PAPAYA WITH I THINK NEAL MATTHEWS OF THE JORDANAIRES PROVIDING A GUIDE VOCAL.ALL IN ALL A VERY WORTHWHILE RELEASE ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE ANYTHING HAWAIIAN.

5.0 out of 5 stars UNDER RATED CLASSIC, 30 Oct. 2015
This review is from: The Who By Numbers (Audio CD)
WHEN THIS ALBUM WAS RELEASED IN OCTOBER 1975 IT GARNERED A LOT OF CRITISCISM FROM THE MUSIC PRESS WITH SOME CALLING IT "TOWNSHENDS SOLO ALBUM".CERTAINLY THE BAND WERE AT A CROSSROADS IN THEIR CAREER, THEY HADN'T TOURED SINCE 1973 AND MOON HAD EMIGRATED TO AMERICA AND TOWNSHEND WAS FULL OF SELF-DOUBT ABOUT WEATHER THE BAND COULD CONTINUE.THIS UPGRADED RELEASE WITH 3 LIVE BONUS TRACKS HAS THE SOUND MARVELOUSLY REMIXED SO YOU CAN NOW HEAR THE BEAUTIFUL BRASS ARRANGEMENT PLAYED BY ENTWISTLE ON "BLUE RED AND GREY" THE DRUMS ARE UP IN THE MIX AND DALTREY SINGS GREAT ESPECIALLY ON "IMAGINE A MAN".THE ALBUM HAS SOME CLASSIC WHO (SLIP KID,DREAMING FROM THE WAIST,SQUEEZE BOX) A COUPLE OF BALLADS AND A GOOD ENTWISTLE SONG (SUCCESS STORY). THE 3 LIVE TRACKS ARE FROM SWANSEA IN 1976 WITH DREAMING FROM THE WAIST A STANDOUT ESPECIALLY FOR ENTWISTLES BASS PLAYING.A QUALITY RELEASE.

3.0 out of 5 stars THE WEIRDEST ELVIS RELEASE BAR NONE, 16 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
WHEN THIS WAS ISSUED BACK IN 1974 ORIGINALLY ON THE COLONELS OWN "BOXCAR" LABEL THEN BY A PRODUCT STARVED "RCA" MANY FANS THOUGHT "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS". NO MUSIC JUST CHAT AND JOKES,SOME OF IT BY AN OBVIOUSLY OVER-MEDICATED ELVIS. THIS LIMITED EDITION HAS BEEN EXPANDED AND WHILE IT HAS SOME KITSCH VALUE YOU WOULDN'T PLAY IT THAT OFTEN.

3.0 out of 5 stars BARREL SCRAPING EXERCISE FOR COLLECTORS, 16 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
AS A COLLECTOR I'LL BUY ANY ELVIS CD FOR JUST A COUPLE OF UNRELEASED TRACKS AS ALL COLLECTORS DO,BUT THERE ARE LIMITS.THE TROUBLE WITH THIS CD IS THAT FOUR TRACKS (WHAT'D I SAY,HARD KNOCKS,MARGHERITA ITS A WONDERFUL WORLD) HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN ISSUED ON THE VENUS IMPORT CD "HARD KNOCK". FIVE TRACKS ARE BACKING TRACKS ONLY WHICH ALTHOUGH INTERESTING WON'T BE PLAYED MORE THAN ONCE. SOME TRACKS ARE MOVIE VERSIONS WHICH ARE MORE THAN LIKELY STRAIGHT DUBS FROM THE FILM ITSELF. THE ONLY TRACKS OF ANY REAL INTEREST ARE "I NEED SOMEBODY TO LEAN ON" "GIRL HAPPY" AND "I'VE GOT TO FIND MY BABY". SAYING THAT ITS VERY SMARTLY PACKAGED AND HAS AN INTERESTING BOOKLET. BUY IT IF YOU WANT IT AS THESE CDs WON'T BE AROUND FOR EVER.

5.0 out of 5 stars ELVIS FOR EVERYONE AS IT SHOULD SOUND, 1 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Elvis for Everyone (Audio CD)
When this album was released in 1965 it was marketed as an anniversary album celebrating Elvis' 10 years on the RCA record label. It was made up of mostly unreleased movie tracks and studio cuts from 1955-1963.Now we have the original album plus the tracks that could have been used but weren't and we also get an overdubbed version of Wild in the Country that was released in the UK in 1975 on a re-issue of this album. On the second disc we get 23 unreleased takes of tracks from 1960-1963,of which the most interesting to collectors is take 1 of Vino Dinero Y Amour where the bridge is totally different from the master released on the Fun In Acapulco album. This is a very pleasant CD to listen to, coming from a testing time in Elvis' career when the only new music being released was from the movies.Buy this CD quick cause they won't be around forever.
