4.0 out of 5 stars Can you be friendly to former enemies?, 15 Aug. 2014

This review is from: The Aftermath (Kindle Edition)
Interesting & well written take on life in the British Occupation Zone in post-war Germany focusing on a senior British officer trying to do an almost impossible job, his family & the German family whose house they move in to but allow them to stay living in albeit in what were once servant quarters. The author tries very hard to look at all sides of the equation & does a pretty good job but I ended up feeling . . 'It's good but it could have been very good' . . Well worth the read though.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit like Dan Brown, 15 Aug. 2014

This review is from: The Seven Stars (Kindle Edition)
A story line with 2 strands - modern day & the Roman Empire around 70 AD focusing on the early Christianity movement. Whilst connected I found the 70 AD strand much more interesting & enjoyable than the modern bits but if you like Dan Brown you'll enjoy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good luck becomes bad very quickly., 15 Aug. 2014

This review is from: Rollover (Kindle Edition)
Interesting idea that keeps you turning the pages but the big baddie was fairly obvious quite early in the story & the hero should have been able to work out the eventual escape attempt much earlier. Central police officer was a well-rounded & believable character. Nothing spectacular but perfectly readable & worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feisty female reporter in search for missing little girl., 15 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A small girl is snatched from a Spanish beach. A fiercely independent Scottish reporter gets involved & discovers perhaps she isn't as tough as she thought she was. Throw in another 3 or 4 storylines that all inter-connect & you have a good read although you have to suspend belief once or twice at how coincidences help the story along. Perfectly ok for a long flight or on the beach.

Fuller's Mine (The Emulation Trilogy Book 2)
Fuller's Mine (The Emulation Trilogy Book 2)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good second part of trilogy., 15 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Second instalment of a planned trilogy that follows the asteroid hitting Earth & how the survivors survive - as with the first book there are basically two strands to follow & as with the first book it was the political bits I enjoyed most - yes, looking with today's eyes you would be very anti how the government that survived goes about ensuring the survival of the human race but then who knows how things would turn out if it ever were to happen? if you enjoyed the first instalment you'll enjoy this one - suggest you read the first instalment first though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't necessarily believe the publicity!, 7 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well I didn't think it was as 'gripping' as it's publicity makes it out to be. An interesting idea but the 'baddies' were too obvious & in my opinion the 'problem' - not wanting to give too much away - whilst thought provoking, could have been allowed to develop more which would have seen it a more interesting book. It's an okay read for a long flight but nothing special.

4.0 out of 5 stars A modern tragedy - that makes you think., 7 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Split Second (Kindle Edition)
What would you do if confronted by the situation one of the characters finds himself in in this well written story about something that happens all too frequently today - do you ignore whats going on or do you intervene - and if by intervening it results in tragic consequences how do those left behind feel? And cope? A good read that explores some difficult questions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting & well written crime novel., 7 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Disappeared (Kindle Edition)
A murder mystery with a good plot, although I was able to guess correctly most of it by about 80% completed, but what I particularly enjoyed was that the police officers were interesting characters doing a difficult job without resorting to the type of cliche you often get in such stories. Anyone who enjoys a murder mystery will find this a worthwhile & enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars I particularly enjoyed the political bits - how the US government tries ..., 7 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Interesting ideas to end of world by asteroid story with a couple of ideas borrowed from 'Deep Impact'. I particularly enjoyed the political bits - how the US government tries to plan rationally to deal with an unthinkable, almost impossible scenario & if you like this type of story you'll enjoy it - and if it isn't you usual 'thing' it might be worth giving it a go as it is an enjoyable read - looking forward to 2nd instalment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended., 13 July 2014

Very solid novel about English Civil War with a detective story at it's core & even the hint of romance. Author has done his research which shows in his writing & that is always very pleasing. Believable, human, main character & you will even find out a bit about 17th Century cheese making. Highly recommended.
