I have already bought and read most William Horwoods books I was interested to read this book having read other reviews. The writing is typically Horwood which almosts paints a picture of the countryside and what is happening in the narrative and moves at a steady pace. I enjoyed the book which is shorter than his norm and read it for what it was without attempting to decipher religious or social meanings, a good story well told.
