5.0 out of 5 stars Great swimming aid, 5 May 2013

Small, easy to use, works well in the pool. Great device to set stroke tempo, or to experiment with varying stroke speeds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Re-issue of a great programme, 5 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I watched this when it first came out in around 1980. Had a copy on VHS, and the tape wore out because it had been looked at so many times. I was very pleased to find this re-issue on DVD, and enjoyed an hour or so of warm nostalgia about Michael Palin's rail trip. Even though this was filmed in the 80s, it feels much, much older (empty London streets at the start of the film, Skye ferry, now long gone...)
The DVD also contains film from a rail trip in Ireland, this isn't as good, but product still gets 5 stars.

Swim: Swim Like You Run
Swim: Swim Like You Run
by Bill Hammons
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.33

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful look at swimming, 5 May 2013

Interesting explanation of mechanics of swimming. The author has years of coaching experience and has written a concise book which will appeal to those who can already swim freestyle well, but perhaps not for beginners.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch is fine, website is rubbish, 5 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Watch works fine, counts laps accurately, menu is easy to use. BUT, the website is terrible. Spent 90 minutes trying to download and install software, but it just won't work, and the watch isn't recognised by my computer. Buy the watch if you don't need online data etc, but avoid if this is an important feature for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy, 27 Mar 2013

Adobe premier elements 11 is awful. The new interface is horrible. The software is unstable, when i add clips on to the time line they keep moving around rapidly. What rubbish software. What a waste of time. I do not believe this has anything to offer over iMovie. Avoid.

5.0 out of 5 stars `Prequel' to The Wooden Horse, 15 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Tunnel (Paperback)
The story of Peter Howard before he was involved in the famous wooden horse escape. I think this is one of the best accounts of POW life in the camps that I have read. If you enjoyed The Wooden Horse, I recommend this book.

Another Long Day On The Piste: A Season in the French Alps
Another Long Day On The Piste: A Season in the French Alps
by Will Randall
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.99

2.0 out of 5 stars Deliriously funny? afraid not, 15 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is an account of the author's season in a ski resort. No new angle or take. Just what happened to him, a diary without dates. It's an ok read for a holiday, it's very light. If you read it at bedtime you won't have nightmares. But it didn't make me laugh out loud, it didn't even make me smile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific!, 9 Oct 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: London Match (Samson) (Paperback)
I'm not usually a fan of spy novels. I recently read the Game, Set & Match trilogy. I got through them all quickly, and thought they were all excellent, I think "London" probably the best. Deighton's writing is absorbing, and although some of the plot twists are a little unrealistic, I was able to overlook this, as the quality of the writing kept me interested. Highly recommended.

Starter for Ten
Starter for Ten
by David Nicholls
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.29

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the holidays, 17 Dec 2010
This review is from: Starter for Ten (Paperback)
David Nicholls writes hugely enjoyable, light stories. This one is about a gauche teenager who's off to university. For those who made the same journey in the 80s, some memories of that time will resurface. The main character Brian is irritating and I found myself cringing quietly, rather than laughing out loud at his attempts to impress his peers. However, the book really drew me in, and like some of the other reviewers, I found I read it very quickly. It's not classic lit, but it's fun and engaging, recommended especially if you enjoyed his other books.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreary, 17 Aug 2010
I'm sorry, IMHO this is a dreary book. Life's just too short to read about this man's boring 'prostate' problems. Unless you're locked in a very small room for the weekend, and this is the only book in that small room, I wouldn't open the cover!
