Having used two "rechargeable" type Water Pik's over the last 5-6 years I discovered this shaver-socket driven version two months ago. A splendid improvement in all respects. Thoroughly recommended.

I've just married these 'phones to my Kindle Fire on which Amazon kindly loads copies of my CD purchases. I have to say they are wonderfully effective - truly delivering the bass sounds that cheaper 'phones cannot handle. My music preferences include much big band jazz and small combos - with both the double or electric bass parts/solos as clear as a bell. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the very best bop alto sax playing on record, 29 Jun. 2014

Please see my review of the companion set "Seven Classic Albums" by Cannonball. I believe these 15 LP re-creations to contain the very best alto sax bop solos of the '55 - '62 era. If there is a weak spot it is that these 'Real Gone Jazz' sets have little in the way of liner notes (save the personnel/recording dates). But this can be more than adequately compensated for by purchasing the very recent Cannonball Adderley paperback biography "Walk Tall" by Cary Ginell (available from Amazon).

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the finest bop alto sax playing on record., 29 Jun. 2014

As a writer of articles on jazz saxophonists for a specialized UK music magazine I purchased this set (along with its companion ""Eight Classic Albums by Cannonball") in order to have comprehensive auditional material to match the recent Adderley biography "Walk Tall" by Cary Ginell (also available from Amazon - and a superb read!). With the possible exception of Stan Getz I cannot think of a saxophonist operating in the "bop" era capable of such original and melodic improvisation regardless of core material and tempo. An outstanding collection of 15 LP's re-issued in CD format covering the period 1957 - 62. Un-believable value, strongly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchased for the second time!, 21 Jun. 2014

Having bought the original hard-back book some years back - it was much enjoyed and duly recommended to members of my family. Someone borrowed it and obviously liked so much it never came back. As I can't be without a copy of such erudite and interesting comment on so much hence a second purchase. No family should be without one (or two) copies!.

Nothing Goodwin does is in anyway second-rate. Top quality sessioneers deliver absolute perfection of performance and soloing. The arrangements - not for the faint-hearted - are bright, modern and above all, interesting. Very highly recommended.

Derek Nash's saxophone playing is extraordinarily fluent. His own compositions are excellent and the entire award-winning CD a delight. Highly recommended.

Jaco Pastorius was not only a phenomenally gifted electric bassist but an extremely good big band arranger. This CD, albeit quite brief in length and recorded live at a concert in Japan, is one of only two that document his charts for the "Word of Mouth Big Band". The material and soloists (apart from Jaco himself) are possibly not of the best quality but overall this is an important historic record of work by a genius cut off in his prime.

David Newton - extremely well known for his supporting role for many of the UK's modern jazz horn players on their peregrinations round the jazz club circuit - does his 'own thing' on this CD. Expertly played and well recorded this is a splendid example of his artistry. Recommended.

Not 'straight-ahead' modern jazz but nevertheless a fine piece of post-Bill Evans work by Frank. I found it necessary to listen to most tracks three or four times to get the best out of this CD.
