3.0 out of 5 stars Where are the horses?, 15 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Seabiscuit [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
This starts of sounding like a documentary on cars, then move on to be about a handful of seemingly random people (one of whom doesn't even like horses), and then, finally, 45 minutes in, Seabiscuit shows up! He gets a two minute long narrated introduction, and we go on with the rest of the movie. This is a shame.
The "handful of seemingly random people" are, of course, not random. They're Charles S. Howard, the man who would later own Seabiscuit, "Red" Pollard, his jockey, and the occasional glimpses of Tom Smith and George Woolf. I can't understand this decision. It effectively leaves the two most interesting people, Tom Smith with his unorthodox training methods, and Seabiscuit, the title character, out off the first half of the movie. I don't know why I needed a history lesson in the Great Depression, or Howard's biography, I get why Pollard makes sense to follow, to some degree, because he develops a special bond with Seabiscuit that is truly touching. Especially once they find themselves sharing a leg injury.
Yes, 45 minutes into the movie it turns... good! I'm not quite sure how I sat through those first, practically horseless, three quarters of an hour, but for the remaining nearly 100 minutes it's a moving story with some great shots of horses. But I really wish they had given Seabiscuit the same amount of screentime they did Howard and Pollard (or vice versa), because who goes to see a horse movie only to spend the better part of an hour seeing only the occasional glimpse of some random horse?

Mikki Grooming Matt Breaker with Replacement
Mikki Grooming Matt Breaker with Replacement

Price: £19.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well., 7 Nov. 2014
Works like a charm, it can get underneath most tangles and cut through them. It does pull a bit, and be careful you don't cut yourself on it, but it's much better than a regular comb. It might be a good idea to have two with different orientation so you can just flip hands to get to knots easier, as they're not always approachable from one angle or another.

Heart Breakers Dinner for One Day Complete Food for Dogs Game 185 g (Pack of 10)
Heart Breakers Dinner for One Day Complete Food for Dogs Game 185 g (Pack of 10)

4.0 out of 5 stars Love 'em, 8 Jun. 2014
I'll be the first to say, that I haven't actually used these for feeding, but I can see nothing in the ingredients that tells me I couldn't. I've instead used them as treats. If your dog is very picky, this might just be the ticket as they're absolutely delicious. They're also totally viable as a treat, mine come running when I open that little bag.
I'm not quite sure I like the little bag layout they've got going for an every-day feeding purpose, especially because one bag isn't always one day's worth of meal, it depends on your dog. They do go a bit dry if you don't use them within a few days, even if you reseal the bag, however, so it makes sense in that context.

Good sound, good remote. Sadly, though, it wasn't compatible with my Sony phone, which probably has more to do with the phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Music!, 7 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Anyone who has played Okami is probably only too willing to tell you that it's a fantastic game in many, many ways, including the soundtrack. Calm and soothing; aggressive and violent; funny and comical; over six hours of entirely beautiful music. It's expensive, though, especially as you'll probably have it shipped in through Japan.

Castle - Season 1 [DVD]
Castle - Season 1 [DVD]

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite a merry-go-round, 29 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Castle - Season 1 [DVD] (DVD)
The series is fun more than it's anything else.

Title character Richard Castle is a juvenile, fun-loving best-selling author of crime novels who has just killed of a long-standing main character as said character bored him. He wants a new muse, new inspiration - and is brought in for questioning about some suspicious murders, based on his books, just as he utters the wish. And there's his new muse, Detective Kate Beckett. Beckett is serious, hard-working, and, you guessed it, a fan of Castle's work, much to her chagrin when she actually meets the man.

The chemistry between the two, Castle's childish fun and occasional brilliant insight and Beckett's experience, sarcastic wit and irritation with Castle, is fantastic and is the main charm of the show.

4.0 out of 5 stars A few lacks, 7 May 2011
It's a great guide, although it could do with a timeline (e.g. You have to have your puppy socialized by four months, because hereafter it will be scared of new things) and it's tip to getting your Havanese used to being groomed (hold it down until it relaxes while grooming it) seems a bit harsh to me. Its only other flaw, is that it's too short.

Other than that, I would definitely recommend it to new owners. It tells you everything you need to know and do to care for your dog that the breeder might neglect to mention.

Brightly Burning (Valdemar Novels (Paperback))
Brightly Burning (Valdemar Novels (Paperback))
by Mercedes Lackey
Edition: Mass Market Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Fire up the proofreader, 26 Mar. 2011
It's really too bad it was so badly proofread, as Brightly Burning is a truly agonizing book in the best of Lackey style. Oh, sure, it's not as terrible as Magic's Pawn, but still quite painful.

That's not to say that the lacking proofreading is the only flaw, no. There are dozens of little things that could have been done better or need a bit of rephrasing. But for the most part, it's great! I love how we can see one scene very objectively, at a distance, then next chapter we see the same scene in a chaotic remake, from Lan's often highly emotional point of view.

One of the things that need some retouching is Lan and Kalira's (Companion's) relationship. See, they're lifebonded, but on the surface, for us that is, it seems as if they're just slightly less jibby than other Heralds and their Companions, sort of like Talia and Rolan, rather than like they're would-have-been lovers.
