4.0 out of 5 stars A 2-3 minute stir-fry in olive oil and a little butter and pepper gives a really good vegetable dish as an accompaniment, 15 Mar. 2015

This makes superb long strands of courgette (zucchini), carrot, etc. A 2-3 minute stir-fry in olive oil and a little butter and pepper gives a really good vegetable dish as an accompaniment, or as a pasta-substitute base for a sauce of any type you like - fantastic under a beef-based Bolognese sauce and the only way I have ever found zucchini (courgette) to be delicious!. If you use a butternut squash or similar very hard vegetable, trim it to a taper to fit the device to avoid undue stress on the spikes on the safety top cover. I found that very coloured vegetables (butternut squash, carrot, especially) can stain the plastic a little, but that does not affect the taste or efficiency. I'd have given 5 stars not 4 if the plastic did not stain and if the blades on the safety cap had been a little stronger to cope with square-cut butternut squash. Mentioning those issues in the handbook would have earned the 5th star!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a series, 14 Oct. 2014
Merry Wrath was with the CIA until a political enemy of her father “outed” her, forcing the agency to retire her to lead Girl Scouts in deepest Iowa rather hunt enemies across the world.
When a notorious guerrilla is found dead in the Girl Scout camp and other criminals turn up dead, her former CIA handler comes back into her life. His hotness, and the even hotter detective in charge of her case – who just happens to be her neighbour-across-the-street – add complications to the case. Having to shelter an insanely sexy former Russian female agent for her old boss does not help.
Leslie Langtry has filled out her characters well, kept up a good level of suspense throughout the book, used humour very well at all the right spots and put a neat plot twist at the end. Thoroughly recommended, and I look forward to more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced suspense, 11 Aug. 2014
Now Sabrina Shaw and her brothers are free of the undercover Eastern European organisation that trained them as assassins from childhood. She has joined a company called The Alliance, which specialises in rescuing kidnap victims and hostages. While searching for a missing teenager, Sabrina uncovers evidence that the girl was enticed from home via an internet contact and taken abroad. Posing on the website as a potential victim, Sabrina lands up a prisoner of the organisation she is trying to penetrate, but with her training she is much better equipped to fight than the average prisoner! Toss in an FBI agent who has also infiltrated the organisation and dramatic chases, raids, escapes and releases follow fast and furious. An excellent read, and I look forward to the other books in the planned trilogy.

Dracula Reigns: A Paranormal Thriller (Dracula Rising Book 2)
Dracula Reigns: A Paranormal Thriller (Dracula Rising Book 2)

5.0 out of 5 stars This excellent follow-up to Jackson Stein's "Dracula Rising" finds Prince Vlad ..., 22 July 2014
This excellent follow-up to Jackson Stein's "Dracula Rising" finds Prince Vlad thwarting a plot to prevent him taking his late father's throne. Having become aware of a satanic plot to wreak havoc and discord in the world, he has to set out, with a tiny group of helpers - some of them in unexpected places - to eliminate the remaining agents of darkness. Part of his mission even involves him being sent on a final mission by the Pope, despite being technically wanted for trial in a Church court....
Very well crafted and characterised, with an urgency relating to the times of a devastating invasion threat to Christian Europe.
Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, pretty, but why the wierd battery?, 16 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Does exactly what it says on the box, and does it very prettily. Shame that it uses such an odd rechargeable chinese battery - if it were adapted to take standard AA rechargeable ones, it would be even more versatile as one could then use it in the winter and top up the batteries with a mains recharger. I'm reluctant to buy any more solar items which don't use a standard battery which I can put in a mains recharger.
If you want these purely for summer effect, they are very pretty and fine for that purpose. With a standard battery, I'd have given it 5 stars

Lethal Bond: Jamie Bond Mysteries book #3
Lethal Bond: Jamie Bond Mysteries book #3
Price: £2.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Series gets better and better, 16 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Jamie Bond is a great character, and I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. This is episode 3 (with a short story as well, featuring one of Jamie's assistants) and starts to unravel how her father came to be shot a few years earlier while investigating political corruption. Linked in with the other work of her agency - I loved the investigation in the nudist resort - and her wonderfully oddball collection of associates in the agency, this book builds vey well on the previous ones. I'm certainly staying signed up for notifications of future volumes.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... thought the first book in this series was rather good and promised well for the future, 2 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I thought the first book in this series was rather good and promised well for the future. This sequel really confirms my first impression. Jamie took over her father's detective agency when he "retired" when health problems after he was shot made it impossible for him to continue running the business properly - although he can't help getting involved in her inheritance - and is doing an excellent job of recruiting tough women to help in the agency. In this book, Jamie gets to start looking into the background of her father's injury and an interesting potential for a relationship starts up.
I really like this, and I'm signed for alerts to future volumes.
Gemma Halliday is putting out some really good reads under her own name (try the High Heels mysteries) and is developing a stable of very entertaining authors in her publishing group - some under their own names, some collaborating with her.
I've yet to find anything I did not thoroughly enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, 23 Jun. 2014
Diana Hudson, a temp-turned-rock star is on tour with a band in the Pirate genre when a series of odd "accidents" start. Then she starts getting some fan letters containing beautiful illustrations of the "accidents", and begins to realise that someone is out to kill her. This book, the third in the series about Diana, is a hugely entertaining story, full of plot twists and slightly crazy, but believable, characters who are skilfully blended into the plot. The book stands alone well, but it is really worth reading the first two in the series as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dracula is born, 9 Jun. 2014

Prince Vlad is the heir to the throne of Wallachia and has been raised to be the noble warrior king needed to defend the kingdom from hostile threats. Over the years, he has seen little of his father who has spent most of the time on campaign. When father returns home, it is clear that something is very wrong and Vlad is determined to find the source of the injuries being inflicted on women around the castle.
This is a skilfully written and gripping story, set in 1447, which chronicles the rise to the throne of the man who inspired the stories of Dracula.
Very highly recommended indeed.
