5.0 out of 5 stars Majestic!, 11 Oct 2013
Spock's Beard continue to create superb music and this album is up there with their best. Well crafted songs and superb musicianship makes this an extremely entertaining listen. Highlights include the opener 'Hiding Out', the majestic 'A Treasure Abandoned', 'Submerged' and the quite wonderful 'The Man You're Afraid You Are'. But the whole album is a real treat and well worth a purchase. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best TV Boxed Set You Will Ever Buy!, 10 Oct 2013
This is the best TV boxed set you will ever buy. A superb, ground-breaking series where tough, ruthless people gain access to your heart. You admire, loathe, love and laugh at them in equal measure. This is gritty, absorbing TV with strong story lines, a sprinkling of comedy and an insight into the criminal mind and into their family lives. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turn Up The Volume!, 10 Oct 2013
This review is from: New Horizon (Audio CD)
The Answer are a hard-working band who play great rock and are fantastic live, yet have enjoyed less success than they deserve. This, their 4th album, is surely the one that will springboard them into the big time - it's their best record by far. New Horizon is glorious, head-banging rock and a really great listen. Turn up the volume and prepare to be entertained big time! Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tear down the walls - this is a brilliant album!, 30 Sep 2013
This review is from: Fortress (Audio CD)
I'll be brief. This album is the best thing these guys have ever done. This is Alter Bridge's 'Physical Graffiti' - yes, it's that good. Magnificent, majestic rock songs, superb guitar solos and Myles Kennedy taking his vocals to a new level. The playing here is just superlative. If you love rock or metal, buy this album. You will not be disappointed. Highly highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full Steam Ahead!, 30 Sep 2013
Big Big Train continue to impress and this majestic release displays a maturity and inventiveness reminiscent of early post-Gabriel Genesis. But there are also echoes of Stackridge, Jethro Tull, Greenslade and even early Spock's Beard here. This is quintessential English progressive rock that I had thought long gone, so it was a real pleasure to set aside just over two hours and listen to this throughout. This double disc set is a combination of two earlier albums with 4 new songs thrown in. But you wouldn't know it because it all hangs together so beautifully. The musicianship is very fine indeed and the arrangements are just perfect. Expansive, melodic, well-crafted songs, there were no jarring moments or areas of boredom - this is just a fantastic listen. Highly recommended - one of the best prog albums I've heard this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Tales!, 15 Sep 2013

Alison Goldfrapp is a wonderful talent and this album shows just how gifted a singer she really is. This is a stunningly good set of songs beautifully arranged. Most benefit from a stripped down arrangement and this allows Alison to shine. This album is Goldfrapp's masterpiece. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Indian Food!, 8 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Rick Stein's India (Hardcover)
This is a gorgeous book from Rick Stein with superb yet simple recipes and wonderful photography. Indian food is awesome and Stein ranges far and wide to provide a host of tasty dishes from across the sub-continent. The book has loads of additional information on ingredients, accompaniments and side dishes, as well as other useful and practical snippets gained throughout his Indian sojourn. The diversity of Indian food is really amazing and Stein captures this beautifully. My favourite dish so far is the Pondicherry Mackerel fish fry - this was simple to prepare and cook and the results were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

This is a great Steely Dan collection - 4 discs of superb music with hit after hit. The download version is a steal at under £15 for all four discs. These guys write and play clever, fun songs with textures ranging from soft rock to jazz and funk. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Top Class Listen!, 20 May 2013
This was my first foray into the works of Kurt Atterberg and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The 6th Symphony is wonderful - sweepingly romantic and played with beauty and verve by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Neeme Jarvi. The 2nd movement (adagio) is a particular delight. The Varmland Rhapsody is a mellow, pastoral work not unlike Delius or Vaughan Williams. Suite No. 3 is just gorgeous throughout. The 4th Symphony is superb. The 1st movement is dynamic, fun and a thrilling listen. The 2nd movement is a tranquil and relaxing experience and paves the way for the more lively but brief 3rd movement. We then have a rather majestic finale. This album really is a top class listen, even if you are unfamiliar with this modern Swedish composer (he died in 1974). This is an excellent release from Chandos - highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is very good indeed!, 8 May 2013
This review is from: Now What ?! (Audio CD)
"Time it does not matter, but time is all we have." - thus begins 'Simple Song', the excellent opener to this fine new album from the legendary Deep Purple. Much time has passed for this band, but here we have a strong set of songs with Purple really stepping up to deliver a very good rock album indeed. Don Airey on keyboards is a real presence - his solo on 'Hell To Pay' is superb. Ian Paice and Roger Glover remain rock solid on percussion and bass respectively; Ian Gillan is still one of the best front men in the business. Steve Morse on guitar plays up a storm. Some listeners may regard this album to be a bit proggy, but I would say that it benefits from that freedom to explore. There are a range of styles here, but nothing cheap or nasty - this is a quality listen folks! Highlights include 'Simple Song, 'Hell To Pay', 'Blood From A Stone', 'Apres Vous', and 'Vincent Price'. Play this through a couple of times with the volume turned up. The kids will be through asking who this great new band are! Highly recommended.
