This review is from: A Grain of Rice (Paperback)
This is a beautifully crafted story and the pencil drawings are sensitively drawn and very charming. Helena Clare Pittman has created an intelligent and clever story based on China's ancient royal court, and how a poor but very clever and good young man wins both the Emperor's favor and his daughter's heart and, eventually, hand. Highly recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars This guide works mostly for adult learners, 12 Jan 2013

I ordered this book based on some reviews which praised it highly as being a practical guide for teaching EFL. For people who are interested in teaching to adults, there is a lot of good information and tips about how to do it. However, I am teaching English to children, and much of what is contained in the book is not relevant for that age level. Therefore, it was somewhat disappointing to read it and not as helpful as I would have liked.

Group of Seven 2013 Calendar (Wall Calendar)

4.0 out of 5 stars Canadian Group of Seven was part inspiration, part imitation, 12 Jan 2013

My decision to purchase this Group of Seven calendar was based upon my love of Lauren Harris' art. He had a pure vision of distilling the spiritual aspects of nature in his part of the world, following the example and inspiration set forth from Kandinsky. He was a contemporary of Georgia O'Keeffe, and painted in a kind of similarly bold, colorful style. Most of the paintings in this collection are interesting and well executed in this modern style. However, I wish that I had been able to see all the images before I purchased it.
