Kitten Clone: Inside Alcatel-Lucent (Writers in Residence)
Kitten Clone: Inside Alcatel-Lucent (Writers in Residence)
by Douglas Coupland
Edition: Paperback
Price: £22.95

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the coffee table dimensions suggest., 8 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At first this looks like a coffee table book, and to some extent, it is. However, the contents itself are very enjoyable. Coupland is a bit pretentious in places, but then that is to be expected, and actually makes a good break from the rest of the material.

He covers topics from the how the internet is affecting us to what Alcatal-Lucent do. Ultimately it is a testament to the people that work there and the discoveries that Bell labs made, yet it is also a book about what the future may possibly hold.

If you like computers and the structure of the internet, then it is certainly worth a read.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you like Joshi, you'll like this, 29 Jan. 2014

If you like Joshi's other books then you'll probably like this. I personally find his style and formatting rather irritating - with poor choice of notation and equations without a LHS for example.

Having said that, like his other books, the content is good. I was looking for an introduction on CAPM and MPT in general and this book serves that purpose very well. If you're from a Mathematical background, then you won't find the going too hard. A second year undergraduate in Physics, for example, could easily read this and get a lot out of it.

Sure you can probably find a lot of the content online in free course notes, but this book really brings it all together in a good package for reference or self-teaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best shave I've ever had, 29 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For those that don't read past the first line, my summary is that this is honestly the best shave I've ever had. I used to *hate* having to shave, but now I look forward to it.

Given the seemingly high initial cost coupled with the fact that I've tried endless other razors, I was at first sceptical. I've tried them all - ranging from razors like venetian blinds to my old Wilkinson sword double edge and none really seemed to be very good. I have quite thick stubble and get quite bad irritation, especially around my jaw line.

Cue this little beauty. The blade is more exposed and slanted, so it doesn't clog and seems to run through my hair like a hot knife through butter. Ignore all the nonsense and horror stories elsewhere - this is not a difficult razor to use. If you press, or hack at your face, then you will cut yourself - but this is true of any razor.

I've found for best results buy yourself a decent shaving brush, some decent shaving cream (not the Mr Whippy ice cream foam you get out of a can) and slap some E45 on afterwards. I use Feather blades with it - they're very sharp and last quite a few shaves.

Sure the initial cost of this may be about the same as a rubbish electric razor, but this handle will last a life time, and blades are *much* cheaper than what you get with a cartridge system, so over the course of a lifetime, will easily pay for itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality case that looks more expensive than it is, 30 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great little case to cover both the front and back of the iPad with a cover similar to the Apple iPad Smart Cover (~£35). It'll keep it scratch free and doesn't add any extra bulk to the iPad.

It comes with a screen protector (never managed to get one on myself in a satisfactory way), a little cleaning cloth and weird pen like wand. Bit gimmicky, but the actual case is the best part about the package.
