5.0 out of 5 stars what an eye opener for seaworld lovers around the world, 2 Nov 2013
This review is from: Blackfish [DVD] (DVD)
I before watching this movie knew of the cruelties that are handed out to caught and captive cetaceans around the world.

With this i thought this was going to be quite a tame production of cetaceans in society how i was so very wrong, this film makes the stuffed shamu teddy buying sea world public open their eyes to the real goings on behind the pantomime known as the shamu show and believe shows amongst many others.

i have never been to any of these shows for the reason i respect cetaceans and feel there's only one show they should be in and that's the one where they are in the oceans being observed from afar. i can see how the lovely blue water in the tanks and the giant screens would entice anyone that these animals were really happy and doing it for the love of it we as cetacean lovers know this isn't true, we know half the time they are doing it as they have had their food held back until they behave correctly.

i listened with open ears to the trainers explaining how they didn't know tilikums history i think after finding the homeless man being paraded around on tilikums back was enough for me to say to my bosses "i hope you don't mind i think i would prefer to be the one that fills the fish buckets i don't want to be a trainer anymore"

mind you i don't think my beer belly would of been well received by the cetaceans or public whilst i parade around in a lycra swimming suit ergh the thoughts putting me off me tea lol

But seriously i do have more respect to the ones that didn't see these cruelties first hand but who know its morally wrong i can assure you i wouldn't of stayed after seeing a tiny amount of what the trainers saw

but not everyone knows when to quit

i just hope we can continue now to keep this topic in the public eye it would be so sad to see this film and books ie David Kirbys Death at Seaworld fade away....

cetaceans and cetacean lovers owe a lot to Dr Paul Spong.. so i read this book with excitement however when i got to page 174 i sort of lost a little lust.

It was when the free cetacean supporters were at Victoria Airport boycotting the last legal caught orca.
i quote from the book Paul on Hansen island at the time of the move, was upset that none of the protesters had tried to stop it
"sounds like a bloody party" he'd complained to Linda.

i am all for us as cetacean lovers to protest against cetaceans in captivity but i do have a bit of a problem when someone moans when
1 they are not there

2 and when someones not kicking off for a want of a better word.

wether a protester is talking to people about the cetaceans in captivity or a protester is handing out leaflets or to the extreme working on a Greenpeace ship we should thank everyone who what ever time they give to making the voice of cetaceans heard
and not get upset because they are not chaining themselves to the wheel of an airplane

Dr Paul Spong love ya man but who calls an orca nicola lol

stay cool

Many do not think the story ended well. i can say it did even though keiko died after two years of freedom he died swimming in the waters he was born in and captured from .He died with dignity and the most wonderful thing iwas he still trusted humans even after all the vile things and situations we placed him in whilst he was in captivity...

thankyou everyone who helped him experience home for the last time ........

Another load of rubbish that rides off the back of this fictitious SeaWorld crap....

quotes off the back cover

1. Whales and people perform better when you accentuate the positive and redirect the negative,

No where in the book does it say about kidnapping murder cruelty and food deprivation.
i will start with tilikum, this whale who has now been in captivity for 28 years plus he was caught if you can call it that i would use the term kidnapping as that has a more realistic description.
Tilikum was captured in Berufjöršur off the east coast of Iceland on November 9, 1983 at about two years of age.,he was then sent to sealand of the pacific where he was housed with two older females both bullied him he would often show many many rakes (bite marks) in the evenings he was housed with the females in what some would describe as a three car garage.
all whales started to refuse to go into their night housing so thats where food deprivation started YOU DONT GET FED IF YOU DONT GO IN THERE.
Tilikum then was involved in the death of one of his trainers how you can be a trainer whilst your still at school still amazes me
Seaworld then bought him knowing of this but only chose to tell certain staff members of this.
he has since been involved in two other deaths one other being a head trainer who knew him well, theres a youtube video where you can see the trainers dead body covered in blankets and you can see titlikum floating in his very very small pool. its not just tilikum its other cetaceans that have turned and rebelled.

now Mr Blanchard you quite clearly in your book suggest we follow the ways of the seaworld trainers..
which is to lock ourselves or someone we wish your advice to work on in a very small room? only allowing them to come out for the sake of our entertainment?
also do you mean us to starve them only allowing the subject food when i have managed to get him back in the small room?
oh i also forgot to ask if the subject really is a bit of a liabilty we use them as studs just popping in the room and abusing them for their sperm so we can make other subjects pregnant? surely that would be classed as sexual abuse.
and when the subject does have enough of its dire existence and breaks all ranks and injures someone or even kills someone are we right to blame everyone else but ourselves for the acts of violence? i mean SeaWorld really blaming a person for the death was because she had a ponytail is totally absurd and degrading to the late trainer.

I am afraid Mr Blanchard your book is the biggest ball of crap i have ever read and let me use the term read very very lightly with its enlarged fonts filling what few pages there are full of lies and rubbish. You Mr Blanchard are charged as Seaworld are with filling peoples head and hearts with false truths.

I cannot believe you do not know of the cruelties that occure(d) (s) at seaworld and other aquariums (mostly which are financed by seaworld although they would not want everyone to know this)at the time as your toilet papaer oops i mean book going to press.

If you were any type of human being with true meaning to your readers you would buy the front page of a good reputable newspaper distancing yourself from these cruelties.

and i can write this review as i purchased your book although be it for 1 british penny had it have been anymore i can promise this review would be a lot more scathing.

so off you pop Mr Blanchard and whilst your having a nice drink with the following persons you have named ie Thad Lacinak Chuck Tompkins and Jim Ballard think of the cetaceans dead and alive that have broken all dignities to earn you that drink.

YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK

And for anyone reading this review watch BLACKFISH or read DEATH AT SEAWORLD or even THE COVE if your stomachs and emotions are that strong .

you at the end of the day have chosen your destiny Mr Blanchard .Lacinak , Tompkins and Ballard all be it in blood...............
