Tempered Steel (Dystopia Trilogy Book 2)
Price: £1.83

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful dystopian novel, 10 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
‘Tempered Steel’ is the second book in the Dystopia Trilogy and is a totally engaging read.

The title is indicative of Dana Ginary, a character exiled from Dystopia who is strengthened by her experiences in the Wastelands: learning independence and finding the power to make her own choices. But living independently is fraught with dangers and trouble is brewing for Dana: the arrival of Kenny, and the threat of Colonel Fernau, determined to hunt her down.

Author, Janet McNulty, delivers a well-developed plot that is full of action and drama. The characters are thoroughly fleshed out and their actions and motivations believable. A great novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prevention is better than cure, 9 Aug 2013
Natalie Mitchell is a nutritionist with a background of working in cancer prevention and recovery. While aimed at cancer prevention, Mitchell says using the information within this book will help you improve your current health.

The book begins with a quote from Robin Sharma that highlighted to me the urgent need to read on. "People generally achieve magnificent things when their backs are up against the wall and they are forced to tap into the wellspring of human potential that lies within them." So often society is reactive. This book is a practical guide in how to be proactive when it comes to cancer prevention.

The best cancer cure is prevention and Mitchell explains which food choices create environments in which cancer can thrive and which create anticancer environments. `How to Kill Cancer Cells' outlines the best nutrition for cancer prevention, giving readers the knowledge to make the best day to day decisions about which foods to eat in order to sustain health and remain cancer free.

While primarily focusing on diet, Mitchell does also look at the impact stress, positive thinking and emotions have on the body's well-being.

With reference to medical and scientific research, `How to Kill Cancer Cells' is an easy read. Mitchell arms reader with information to take control over their body's health by making informed daily choices and in this way avoid disease.

This book starts chillingly as reporter, Jill Matthews, receives a threatening phone message during a power outage in her apartment. When Matthews reports the call to Mia Sanchez, a hard-hitting homicide detective, Mia contacts Detective Stevens, fearing there might be a link to the homicide case he is working on. After receiving a threatening phone call, it is decided that Matthews cannot stay in her apartment so is taken in by Dr. Nathan Fields, the forensic scientist working on the case.

Therein begins a love affair between Fields and Matthews, but one that is fraught with danger and tension as Matthews is stalked by a brutal serial killer.

‘Evidence of Malice’ is a frightening crime story that will raise the hairs on the back of your neck. With twists and turns in the plot and edge-of-your-seat drama, this is an exciting read! If you like fast-paced action and suspense, then you will like ‘Evidence of Malice’.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique and engaging story of love, friendship, control, and trust., 8 Aug 2013

Brook has lived his whole life on Defiance Island, an island rehabilitation for ‘waywards’ where conformity and adherence to the rules are paramount. As six new teens arrive, Brook’s curiosity about the nature of the waywards and the workings of Defiance Island intensifies. One of the teens, Gabriella Winslow, is convinced she has mistakenly been sent to the island. Gabriella is pursued by a supernatural force. When Brook and Gabriella meet, they share a mutual attraction and find in each other their first love.

Author, January Valentine, delivers a unique paranormal fantasy with a complex plot. While there are two main characters, there are multiple secondary characters to follow; through careful writing of dialogue, Valentine creates a distinctive voice for each character.

‘Beautiful Experiment’, the first Island of Defiance Trilogy book, is a fabulous read. The inclusion of an excerpt of ‘Beautiful Defiants’, book two of the Island of Defiance Trilogy, gives you a taste of what’s to come in the next book…and I can’t wait!

The Fellowship: A Thriller
The Fellowship: A Thriller
Price: £3.08

5.0 out of 5 stars An author to watch, 5 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After reading Tyree’s debut novel ‘Line of Succession’, a political thriller set against a backdrop of terrorist lead threats in the struggle to control water, I was hooked on the storyline and main character. I was so excited to see the second book published! While this is Tyree’s second ‘Blake Carver’ book, each novel stands independent of the other, so you don't have to have read ‘Line of Succession’ before getting stuck into ‘The Fellowship’.

In this latest novel, Tyree tells a fabulous story as protagonist, Blake Carver, battles against terror facing an ancient order of assassins in a journey across the globe. Tyree successfully blends the ancient enemies with modern problems and the end result is a complex and riveting story that had me reading furiously!

‘The Fellowship’ is a well-researched, fast-past thrilling novel. Tyree’s knowledge of politics and global issues adds depth to the plot. This is definitely an author to watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully inventive futuristic novel, 5 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This futuristic, young adult science fiction traces the life of Leoric Swift from his birth in the opening chapter. Leoric is more than a little wild, he is reckless, but with the help of his friends and teammates, Reville `Revy' James and Corrigan `Gin' O'Hare, Leoric embarks on galactic missions in the ship his father left him.

It took me some time to get into the storyline: I found the opening chapter to be a little contrived and young Leoric`s life a little too idealistic...until his home is destroyed and his life is completely changed. While the writing style occasionally feels a bit clichéd, if you bear with this and get through the opening chapter, you are ultimately rewarded with an unusual and entertaining novel.

`Of Hearts and Stars' is a unique story with an interesting and intricate plot. The characters are well-written and likeable - it is an easy story to engage with and will keep you reading to the end of the rollercoaster!

‘Spades’ is a powerful story with dark undertones of suicide and crime of love beyond boundaries. This is the tale of Calise, 17 years old, and Chris, 27 years old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complex fantasy world, wonderful characters, 30 July 2013
Author, Katri Cardew, creates a complex and complete fantasy world in the `Vampiris Sancti' series. Cardew develops depth of character through Vyrn Dhaigre: a sophisticated, serious Demon whose yearning for love threatens everything he has worked towards.

Dhaigre is a powerful and highly successful financier, who, through hard work and dedication, has risen to the position of prince in the Martyc Empire. He is the ruthless and charismatic overseer of the human world, occupied by humans and Vampires. His only weakness is for a young Elf, Zyre.

`The Demon Prince' is a stunning fantasy about power, betrayal, revenge and love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Richly evocative fantasy world, 27 July 2013
Although this is a vampire book, leave any ideas of a Twilight-type romance behind. Author, Katri Cardew, builds a detailed fantasy world where humans are low in the hierarchical order and vampires represent their interests. `The Vampire' is one of the books in the `Vampiris Sancti' series - a fabulous series.

Among the complex characters is protagonist, Bethany Trent, thrown into the unknown as she undergoes mutation and, amidst political factions and in-fighting, encounters demons and magical creatures. Bethany is recreated as Siah for one purpose - revenge, but she resists and finds herself unexpectedly attracted a vampire closely tied to her future.

With everyone looking out for their own interests and perusing their own agendas, Siah embarks on a journey of self-discovery. This is a story of danger, deception, love and retribution. If you enjoy this book, you will also like `Vampiris Santci: The Elf' - another great book in this series.
