4.0 out of 5 stars Dark, captivating, 31 Oct. 2010
I have read most of Ian McEwan's books and found this one typical of his style, with a macabre atmosphere to the storyline. Although it is dark and disturbing I found it captivating. The style of writing makes you want to read on. The descriptions of Venice portray creepy, narrow streets between the brighter tourist ones.

I read the description of this film and thought it would be a good thriller and enjoyable like most other french films I have seen. However, it dragged on and on and nothing much happened. Although there was a storyline, I felt there were many pointless and unnecessary scenes which elongated the film.

Good Food: 101 Cakes & Bakes: Tried and tested Recipes
by Mary Cadogan
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, easy to follow, 31 Oct. 2010
This is a really useful book - lots of recipes for cakes, loafs, muffins and cookies. There is a picture of each item which I really liked and the recipes are short and easy to follow. Good selection of everyday and fancy cakes and bakes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original, quirky, and uplifting, 9 Oct. 2010
This review is from: The Up Country Twit (Paperback)
I really liked this little book, it is a quirky up-lifting story of one woman's struggles and adventures bringing up her children in a chaotic household in North Cornwall whilst trying to cope with an alcoholic husband. I sympathized with the main characters difficult problems and admired the way she dealt with them, always seeing the funny side of life.
Filled with amusing characters, animals, and events, it is an honest well written book with great descriptions of the rugged landscapes of North Cornwall.
Highly recommended.
