4.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the ... box, 23 Sep 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Just installed and used this product this evening. Very straightforward to install, and took only a few minutes. Once loaded, a simple user interface that really only takes a couple of minutes to understand. Basically you 'load' the PDFs you want to install, and then can either process into Word/Excel/Wordperfect/RTF format in bulk or individually. The speed is pretty impressive also, which is good. I chucked a couple of fairly complex PDFs at it - and generally the results were good - I could then edit in Word.

The only thing I can't work out is why the powerpoint output template doesn't work. I am sure there must be a simple explanation, but I can't find a reason. I have registered, looked over help etc but can't find how to enable. There must a really simple thing I am overlooking.....

Other than that, an impressive but very simple product. If you do plenty of work around PDFs then this seems to be a good purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to setup and use, 16 Sep 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
You have probably read all the technical specs by now, so just to sum up:
- very easy to setup and use
- extremely pleasing item on the eye (another one of these purchases when you open the box and think 'how small is this!!??')
- does exactly what it says on the tin.

Really impressed with this purchase, and may also buy another for the wife. Only downside is the size of some of the buttons, but on balance, a very good technical design.

4.0 out of 5 stars Took me a while...., 16 Sep 2009

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have read all of Stuart MacBride's previous books, and have left them good reviews on Amazon. I was therefore intrigued about this new venture. I won't repeat the synopsis, which you can read above, but overall I found this to be an interesting concept and storyline. It took me a while to get into it - some of the names for guns are almost childlike - but in persevering, I felt I was rewarded in the end. I found the characters increasingly connectable, and a very surreal experience began to build around the 'lead' halfhead, Dr Westfield - I continually wondered how such a storyline could emerge from a labotomised serial killer.

Would i read the sequel - probably. However, I would look forward to the next story set in Aberdeen more.

Got this for my daughter when she was 6. It is a lovely little set with the characters and bits/pieces that she was able to create up a school/playground. She did enjoy this for a few days, but not really enough to hold her attention any longer. I was going to suggest it is for younger ones, but lots of small pieces to be careful of. Maybe quite good for a plane journey!

Got this for my 7-year old kitty-obsessed daughter! She loves it. The colours might clash a bit, but lets not get too serious - wee ones just love it for the bright pictures and their favourite character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dont listen to these other reviews!!, 31 July 2009
... a few of them have said the coffee "is as good as you get at XXXX". Lets be clear. This coffee is way better than you can get on the high-street - even Nero. **However ** its not really for the faint hearted, so if you like your coffee very weak, I am not sure how you would get your moneys-worth.

This is THE best present i have ever received. If you like strong coffee, get one. Don't think about it, just click 'add to basket'. You will thank me in a couple of weeks time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pains me to say it...., 25 July 2009

... but this book fell a bit short.

Don't get me wrong, I am a massive JC fan. Read all his books, been to book signings etc. This is up to his usual high standards of style of prose and easy reading. But I just didn't get the story... it was like a character background on Parker, with a bit of the supernatural as background - but it just didn't have the impact of the Killing Kind/Dark Hollow - and felt a bit contrived as a result.

One of the other reviewers probably put their finger on it. This is one for the fans, and is a "filler" for me before his next great story appears. After The Gates, it is "The Whispers" - hopefully that will be back to greatness!

Norton Utilities 14.0 - 1 User 3 Computer (2009) (PC CD)
Norton Utilities 14.0 - 1 User 3 Computer (2009) (PC CD)

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really much on offer, 22 July 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I first came across Norton Utilities (NU) for Windows 95, although I wasn't a huge user of the tools as I consider myself fairly computer-literate. 2/3 years ago I started using TuneUp Utilities, so from installing NU, most of my thoughts are comparing NU with TuneUp.

In short, I don't think Norton has much to offer. The main console is split into 4 areas - Optimise, Monitor, Windows Tools and Administer.

Administer is just simply preferences/updates for the tool. Windows Tools is just a bunch of shortcuts to controls panels you can find on your run menu. Monitor has some performance benchmarks (purpose escapes me).

The main functionality is under Optimise... and I can't help think most of the options are available free with a tool such as CCleaner that you can get from filehippo. It really is pretty basic. Cleaning disks and defragmenting the registry/hard drive can be done free of charge!

So my recommendation. Get a copy of CCleaner. Supplement with TuneUp - which has a fine disk defragmentation tool and some other very neat options.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly good, 17 July 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have been learning Italian for a while, and was using courses more focused on grammar. When I picked up the Italian version of this, I was a bit dubious about how good it was going to be - previous attempts at these were very offputting due to the ongoing pan pipe music, and slightly-too-enthusiastic voices.

However.... actually this was quite good. Still a bit of the pan pipes, but the setup, instruction and the methods of setting out ways of remembering vocabulary was very considered. There has also been some thought about the types of language you will need on holiday - for example in the directions unit - it rightly says you will be unlikely to give directions - and focuses on listening.

I finished the Italian, and now on the Greek for a visit to Cyprus. All the above holds. Impressed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, 17 July 2009

won't go over everything already here, but the key question before getting this, is to make sure you will be processing enough documents to make this worth your while.... If so then some of the functions such as scan straight into office; turn paper, PDF into file formats that look just like the original might be very useful

Overall recommended for bulk/heavy processing.
