5.0 out of 5 stars Makes The Wire look like The Bill, 27 May 2014

One of the best cop dramas i have seen for many, many years. It blurs the lines between the police and the bad guys and the action comes thick and fast and the script cracks along at a breakneck pace.

If you like your cop dramas with a bit of edge, PLEASE dont let the subtitles put you off. Brilliant stuff.

A wonderful nostalgic look at how films used to be made. Brilliant and subtle performances all round (Except from the four legged hero Uggy who hams it up like a trooper). A brave and chancey movie that like recent best picture winner Slumdog Millionaire relied on the good word of mouth of the punters to tell others of the brilliance of a silent movie in the 21st century.

Some familiar Hollywood faces in this too with John Goodman and James Cromwell to name but two flesh out the supporting cast well and add weight to the story.

The film pays tribute to many of the silent greats such as Douglas Fairbanks,Clara Bow, Keaton and Chaplin as well as nods to Singing in the rain and Citizen Kane amongst others.

In the age where every other movie is a 3D supersound, big name multimillion pound blockbuster The Artist became the little film that could and swept through from Cannes to the Oscars and by the time it was done had become juggernaught and swept all before it.

Buy this movie, switch off the lights and the phone and watch a future classic and a film sure to stand the test of time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, average singer, 1 Nov 2010

Has Ali Campbell ever done anything original? Hearing him is like Karaoke night at the Dog and Duck. How he has carved out a career from ruining cover versions for 30 years is beyond me. Very poor stuff, ignore the one star rating, it should be lower.

Given Vivs place in English footballs history an autobiography was a racing cert.

You get the usual type of stories from the career which could in truth come from any player. One thing that stands out is what seems a hated for Liverpool Football Club. Granted, they were THE force of English football at the time but Viv seems to rub and enjoy the victories over them with more relish than even his 2 European Cups. (And no Im am not a Liverpool supporter)

This really is a bit of a missed oppotunity i feel, I mean he worked with Cloughie for goodness sake, made 2 world cup squads, dozens of European journeys with Forest, United and Arsenal and was part of the legendary United drinking circle.

No terrible, but i think he has hit the post rather than sent a screamer in to the top corner.

1.0 out of 5 stars WORST VAMPIRE MOVIE EVER!!!!, 21 Sep 2009
This review is from: Twilight [DVD] (DVD)
In the history of the vampire genre there have been some real clunkers but this knocks them out the park.

Sparkly, swoony and full of angst are things vampires aint.

I gave this awful film one star because i couldnt give it a minus mark.

The acting is woeful, Pattison couldnt act his way out of a wet paper bag with a rip in it and directions.

This isnt just the worst vampire movie ever made, and yes, Im including those awful Hammer ones, this is one of the worst movies of the last decade....and beyond.
AVOID, AVOID AVOID

5.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked classic, 30 April 2009

This was a gem of a show that somehow slipped through the net here. (despite a dreadful UK version with Russ Abbott)

The down trodden Al Bundy brilliantly played by Ed O'Neill has had ever hope, wish and dream crushed by life, bad luck and more recently his family.

The lazy bon-bon eating Peggy, ditzy and tarty Kelly and Bud, a bright boy but doomed because he is a Bundy. Oh yes he is also desperate to lose his viginity.

After a slow start with its first year, a pick up of years two and three this is where the show really hits its stride. Als regrets at his lost youth and potential to end up a shoesales man which is the butt of dozens of jokes.

This is the Brady Bunch, My Family and Family Ties with the gloves off and a lot of beers downed.

If you like your comedy with more than a hint of grimness, Al often prays for a sweet merciful death, check this out.
