5.0 out of 5 stars a must have for any fan, 12 Mar. 2014

Tom baker's first story as the fourth doctor. Out of all the doctor's first storys this is easily my favorite. The storyline is very good, the casting is brilliant with Edward Burnham coming back and playing a similar character to the one he played in the invasion (1968).
Some of Tom Baker's scenes in this story are some of his best from his time in doctor who. This dvd comes with some very good features including a dosumentary, audio commentary and information text. overall this is one of my favorite storys.

The storyline is ok, the special effects are very good for the time and budget and the casting is very good. However the special features on this dvd are very poor. The audio commentary for this story is possible the best feature of this dvd. value for money is good.

4.0 out of 5 stars really good boxset, 12 Mar. 2014
As a fan of the William Hartnell years, I decided to go right back to the beginning so I got this boxset.

The stories:

An unearthly child:
If I'm honest, this story isn't the best. However, the way they introduced the characters was very good. Starting off with a historic story was a smart move even if the cavemen where slightly unconvincing. This dvd has an unusual feature that I quite like, before the first episode, they show the transmitted pilot which although others disagree, I think is a good feature. as far as special features go, there is the commentary, information text, some comedy sketches and a photo gallery. Overall I would give this story 3 stars.

The daleks:
This is the first and one of my favorite dalek stories. This 7-part story looks very realistic for the time and budget, and the storyline is fantastic. Casting is very good as well as the sets of the dalek city. The production team went over budget with this story but it is definately worth it. Special features include audio commentary, information text, a documentary of the designing of the daleks and a photo gallery. Overall I would give this story 5 stars.

The edge of destruction:
This 2-part story is a money saver. It was written because they production team found they had a two week gap between the daleks and marco polo. Due to going over budget on the daleks, they couldn't go out of the set of the tardis. depite this, the story is very good with the four main characters acting fantastically. Because this story only has 2-25 minute episodes it has hour of special features. It has a documentary on the creation of doctor who, a documentary on creating the edge of destruction, a 25 minutes audio story of marco polo with lots of pictures, photo gallery, audio commentary and information text. Overall I would give this story 4 stars.

Special features:
This box-set has hours of special features, all very interesting and worth watching. 5 stars for special features.

Value for money:
You defiantly get your moneys worth with this boxset, 3 discs, lots of special features. 5 stars for value for money.
