4.0 out of 5 stars Duets.., 28 Mar. 2010
Rod style is very special therefor hard to find duett partner. The avarage "international star" is not match for this task. The parnter need virtuoso performing qualty a pinch of humor and of corse excelent vocal quality. Fortuantely G.A.S.IV is the point where Rod begin to found their partner for duet.
The Diana Ross song is "not bad".
Sing with Elton John is the category "good" for me. This song has all qualty above.
The top (for me) is the "You send me" with Chaka Khan. This exactly say not a duet this is a trio Chaka-Rod-Saxophone. This song contain enough from qualty above.

The G.A.S. 2 (2nd.) open with fail recorded trumpet? saxophone? solo. So I agree because the audio recording of this songs is being good. My personal worry is recording of my favorit "You send me" is good but not perfect.

My overall think about G.A.S. is the studio. The audience is some kind of inspiration for Rod. Therefor the studio is some kind of jail. So my think was some kind of small professional concert hall (like Adrian Boult Hall in Birmingham). This is compromise between arena and studio. With limited number of audience can Rod feel like in concert but take the cance for audio engineers to record. And I think this provide for us top performing qulity...

4.0 out of 5 stars HWK work, 9 Mar. 2010
This concert is good example of HVK work. The Strauss melodies can translate he's work for any peeople. This is good exmaple why HVK is in the top 5 ever conductor in the world. He does not will to force every tact. The orchestra know what they to do. The top conductor "say" less time just only if they needed.
Othersides you can see here how hard work to control the audience.

The video and audio record is acceptable. I miss just the wide views from the video work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strauss dedicated to America, 9 Mar. 2010
This is a very intresting concert. Mix the Strauss and Gershwin melodies to one. The performers are top of Vienna and USA. The special is the new year melodies not just preformed by orchestra but singed too by stars of Vienna. This pieces originally componed for wide stage but this stars can play it well in small amount of stage of Musikverein.
Appearance of Eva Lindt, Herbert Lippert, Henry Cuesta are take this concert to "event". The festival orchestra are fanatstic background for this concert.

The video work is fine the audio is acceptable. The experience of ORF team in Musikverein is effecitve. I still miss the PCM track.

3.0 out of 5 stars Taste of Humperdinck, 9 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My family was a Humperdinck fun but I have no intrest for. After I see this concert in DVD I understand taste of Humperdinck. Of course he was hero of all women but most of all good performer. This concert is good overview of their work. The RAH fill it with elegance.

The video work was very good for this time. The audio recording is still under 80s level. Ok ok, I accept recording concert live in RAH is a very very hard work...

I think this concert is very intersting from technical side. At that time the wireless microphone was new and expensive technology. This is why just one dedicated to Humperdinck. But you see here this new think bring freedom for performer. They can walk to many direction and parctically sing everywhere.
Othersides the dance with mic cable was part of all concert (see Dusty Springfield lives). This gone forever. Today the wireless mic is basic element of all concert.

My personal worry is the more medley. In that time this was fashion but for me this is some kind of "how the kill the music". I do not like it.

Michael Ball: Past And Present Tour - Live [DVD]
Michael Ball: Past And Present Tour - Live [DVD]

4.0 out of 5 stars Show in RAH with many many music, 9 Mar. 2010
At first time I see this concert I found littlebit strange. But I accept this is the the 25th... and Michael has the right to put more than avarage fun to this concert. I tell this is a show in RAH with many many music.
For first time the selection of "guys" are very strange too. But if you scan every details of then you see quality of each. The 5 different "guy" bring nearly 5 concert into one.
The song selection is real past and present. This deliver quality for this concert.

The audio and the video work is good. What I miss the PCM audio track instead of DBD2ch. This required to reproduce music in my home.

So I tell play this concert more than one times and accept its specials. Then you can feel exceptional fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very intresting concert, 8 Mar. 2010
I was jung at time of this concert so is very intresting for me. Dusty style was parent for many other performer. The band and Dusty itself make some misstake during this concert.
But the most important is in this concert Dusty sing their song "Quiet Please, There's a Lady on Stage". What I mean "their song"? Every singer has one song mostly just one time where open for the audience. Tell most of feeling what inside and forgot the perform just give their own soul. Very intresting to see how many natural feeling can pushed to moments of this song. This to present not just the diva but many of people Dusty.

The video recording is very good for the 80s. The strange is the recording style. The dominant of close-ups and missing capture of the orchestra is littlebit strange for the todays viewer.
The quality of audio recording is not even touch the level of 80s. But the iuntersting is the implemtation. Looks like the 2ch track picked up like audience hear it at RAH. No orchestra mic recorded directly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exchause me..., 8 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Exchause me but I have littlebit other opinion.

The stage and dress desing of this concert is excelent. This is match for LasVegas.
The style and performing of "arabian" songs are good idea. But the old SB songs are performed like more year before. I miss here some "evultion" for this songs.
The video recording is bring some misstake. Many camera was too noisy for this task. The constant problem in SB concerts the color red. This is very decorative at live concert but very hard to capture with camera. As I remeber SB first DVD from RAH has the same problem to reproduce the red lighted concert parts.
The audio recording is very "made in USA". Trough high definition system many misstake can be discovered.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just the concert of she's life, 8 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First of all this concert is not "just the concert of she's life" but in my list in the world 50 better ever concert.
The tools (lighting, stage, etc.) is relative easy but the result is very good. The selection of songs and orchestration is fine. The selection of dance and choreogrpahy is fine too.
The audio and video recording is not too perfect but the "old" audio technology prvide the excelent tools to record Liza special dynamics.

As owner of CD, VHS and DVD version of this concert I have only one worry. To produce wide screen format for DVD the editing stuff just simply cut the top and bottom of a screen. My opinion this is not editor work this is barbarism...

4.0 out of 5 stars Top of the world, 8 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This concert mix Rod rock and "great american songbook" style. This take it exceptional and bring Rod to top of the world. This is the university how performer to handle right the audience. The prof is Rod itself. The song selection and orchestration of course fine.
The audio and video recording quality of this DVD is good. The video editor catch most of sweet moment and miss less.
