3.0 out of 5 stars Bad picture quality, 27 Oct 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Everyone who loves the old 'Mission Impossible' TV series knows that the '88 and '89 seasons were not as good as the original 7 seasons. But they were better than most of the other stuff on the telly in these days. So it's a reason to be happy to have the '88 and '89 seasons on DVD finally.
But be prepared: the picture quality of the '88 season is only slightly better than VHS quality. This is especially dissapointing because one is spoiled by the perfect picture quality of the original seasons which are about 20 years older.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 great movies - 2 quite bad prints, 31 Aug 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
No more words from me about the three great Wajda movies A GENERATION, CANAL and ASHES AND DIAMONDS in this box. Don't miss them if you are in any way interested in European cinema!

But there has to be said something about the quality of the prints of A GENERATION and CANAL. Don't expect to see prints comparable to the usual EUREKA, BFI or maybe even CRITERION standard.
There are night scenes in A GENERATION which are so dark and poor of contrast it's hard to follow the action. Both prints contain a lot of scratches and other damages and the sound quality is varying from good to bad throughout the movies.
And the subtitling is quite shoddy, too. Only about two third of all dialogue is translated, which made me feel uncomfortable from time to time being a non-polish speaking guy.
ASHES AND DIAMONDS on the other hand is really very acceptable print-wise.

And now for something completely different:
Vladek Sheybal (as Wladyslaw Sheybal), who is a bit famous for his later role as Dr. Doug Jackson in the TV series UFO, gives a real striking performance in CANAL.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly "ultimate", 29 Oct 2008

"The Fast Show" is great. This box set is 'brilliant'!

But it is not "Ultimate" inasmuch the live shows are missing. You have to buy the "Fast Show Live and Farewell Tour Live double pack" seperately to get "The Fast Show" complete.

Or will there be a "The Fast Show : Complete Collection (8 Disc BBC Box Set)" some day?

4.0 out of 5 stars Beware!, 27 July 2008

This review is from: The Richard Pryor Show [DVD] (DVD)
I think that Richard Pryor was the funniest person on planet earth. He was so politically relevant. And still is.

But his TV shows are NOT funny (like practically all of his movies are NOT funny). You learn why by watching this 3-DVD-set.

It contains the four 50 minute NBC TV-shows and one NBC 'Special'. It's mostly TV standard stuff that could have been done by anyone else and that almost completely misses the Richard Pryor signature.

BUT BEWARE:
There is a lot of bonus material including outtakes, studio stand-ups and longer versions of sketches that were heavily edited for the TV broadcast. That stuff is hilarious and worth the money for the DVD-set alone!
So all in all it's a must-buy for anyone seriously interested in Richard Pryor's work.

By the way:
Go to YouTube and watch American Native comedian Charlie Hill on the Richard Pryor Show. This IS funny and politically relevant.
