The Night Visito

Price: 9.49

5.0 out of 5 stars GENTEEL SOPHISTICATION, 20 July 2014
This review is from: The Night Visito (Audio CD)
Anna Ternheim is another of the relatively recent Scandanavian imports to bless this shore with her own brand of Folk.
With "The Night Visitor" Anna's fifth studio release, she introduces, to great affect, a tinge of Country into the mix.
It's an album full of genteel sophistication, but no less melodramatic for all that.
Crystal clear vocals accompanied by an assortment of acoustic instruments, with subtle string arrangements and intelligent, sometimes witty lyrics all make this an unmissable listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars JAZZ MEETS FOLK, 20 July 2014

Lianne La Havas is a British Jazz/Folk singer/songwriter from London.
"Is Your Love Big Enough" is her debut full length recording and one that had it not been for Adel's 21, may well have recieved even more exposure than it already has.
It's quite a stripped down album with Lianne's gorgious dusky vocals, deftly picked guitar and gentle percussion weaving a magical intimit set of heartfelt songs of the exquisite pain of love.

Willy Mason is a New York born, Contemporary Folk singer/songwriter, who with his third full length release "Carry On" brings a Folk album with new dynamics.
Still maintaining the essential folksy guitar style with Mason's golden baritone, but with the addition of drum boxes and sonically enhanced melodies, it has added a welcome additional dimension to the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars A STAR IN THE MAKING, 20 July 2014

This review is from: Mo Kenney (Audio CD)
Mo Kenny is a native of Nova Scotia and a star in the making on the Alt/Folk singer/songwriter scene.
Having already gained numerous awards for her work, it is little wonder that her self titled debut album is receiving much deserved praise.
Mo's finger picked acoustic guitar is only occasionally superceeded by the heavier electric on the slightly edgier tracks. Likewise her vocals are for the most part soft, but take on a bitter edge when the song calls for it.

New Jersey born, Alt/Rock singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten, with "Tramp", presents her third full length release.
It's an album that veers from the gutsy to the gentle and understated, with Sharon's smouldering vocals pouring out a raft of emotions, full of passion and regret over past broken relationships.

Former Jazz musician, Nick Mulvey is an Alt/Folk singer/songwriter from Cambridge England who was short listed by the BBC for "the sound of 2014".
He has studied a variety of cultural music and this is evident in his debut full length release "First Mind".
It's an album full of rhythmic acoustic guitar, gentle percussive beats and intelligent lyrics. A highly impressive first LP.

Tiny Ruins is the project of New Zealand born, Alt/Folk singer/songwriter, Hollie Fullbrook.
Lay back, clear your mind, think of a glorious Summers day and let this beautiful record flutter over you like a cool breeze.
Delicately picked acoustic guitar, Hollie's equally delicate vocals and a smattering of other tastefully chosen instruments take the listener meandering through stories of quaint brief encounters and lifes mysteries.

Georgia Ruth, christened , Georgia Ruth Williams, is a Welsh Indi/Folk singer/songwriter and of all the young talent out there, she has to be up there with the best and most original.
Original because her instrument of choice is the Harp and if that's not unusual enough, she has defined her own style of finger picking more akin to a guitar.
Not only is she adept at creating beautiful music, but she also possesses a sweet clear voice.
"Week of Pines" is her debut full lenth recording and is made up of mostly songs with English lyrics, with 3 more sung in Georgia's Mother tongue of Welsh. However, this in no way detracts from the album, even if you can't understand the words, the beauty of the music and Georgia's gentle vocals will enchant you alone.
