4.0 out of 5 stars Superb Dark Mix, 8 Jan. 2004
This review is from: Essential Mix (Audio CD)
Bought this album recently after hearing and enjoying Sander's GU Nubreed CD and his latest Everybody package for renaissance...... and was not disappointed. Although this effort is only 1 CD deep it is probably my favourite of the 3 aforementioned mixes. Somewhere else entirely to Everybody and not terribly similar to the GU CD Sander provides a dark sexy mix, the opening starting on a tribal theme gradually filtering to dark sexy techy-house tracks like the amazing Stonegroove by Kao (worth buying the album for alone!). At which point point Sander realises the need to change the script, for something of a vocal interlude by track 9 (where so many others would take the mix too 'deep') before the CD fades into the deep progressive house obscurity associated with so much within the genre before bringing in a more 'trancey' progressive house sound for the finale. As mentioned really do thing the Stonegroove track is rather special but as a whole the CD just 'works' and I just prefered the darker sexier sound of this CD to the somewhat housey house of everybody and the techy prog house served up on NuBreed (both fine CD's in their own rights however!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot like me nans water water in the pot, 25 Aug. 2001
This review is from: The Cold Vein (Audio CD)
Yeah, tight. As the other reviewer says takes it from where co-flow left off. Superb mystical electronic El-p production, typical of the man, make this LP what it is. The MCing is hot though but it is the beats which give the piece it's character, and what a character! If you enjoyed funcrusherplus this is for you, I was disputing whether to buy this for some time as the group cannibal ox to me was something totally new, but my faith in the el producto paid off. Superlative tracks include 'Iron Galaxy' 'Straight of the D.I.C.' 'The F word'and 'Stress raps' although the whole album is so good this is very subjective. This is the sort of record which takes you away from the world, with it's other worldly sounds and qualities, almost a-kin to the blade runner soundtrack. Buy this, it's some of the most mature yet innovative and cutting edge hip hop you'll hear this year.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disapointing, 5 Feb. 2001
This review is from: The W (Audio CD)
I cannot see how all these people give this album 5 stars, It's got a couple of good tunes which have all been released but the rest is pretty much skip material. It's nothing like the last 2 albums although we all know forever ain't as good as 36 chambers, but really tunes like conditioner with snoop are awful. Get a copy off a mate on tape and save your money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Debut LP, 30 Jan. 2001
Back in 1998 before this album dropped I heard the Wu Renegades single on vinyl in Richmonds HMV. I had never heard any stuff of the Wu Affiliates that are Killarmy but immediatedly I was addicted to their raw Wu sound. 4th disciple does some efing legendary work on this album and god damn some of the trax are stunning. Wake the F@*k up for example is just quality I first heard it in a French lesson when a mate put it in his cassette player which he was meant to be recording an oral on, but Camouflage Ninjas,Wu Renegades, Clash of the Titans, Full Moon and Blood for Blood are all gorgeously produced with some lovely old samples on the latter two. Their follow up album is ok with about 3 standouts but nothing like this with it's sheer volume of class production if the lyrical side sometimes lacks.... especially when Islord gets a chance (sounds like a constipated 10 yr old and his flows are s@*t). Thankfully however he was in jail for this album and thus only appears on one or two trax. Basically this album I recon is a damn essential purchase with about 7 outstanding tunes and although it hasn't received much attention I'd say it is one of the most overlooked albums of recent years and is way better than say the W or any recent Wu solo joints. If u like hard hip hop or their second album then Go Kop That S@*t Now!!!
